If Obama debated anyone no teleprompters allowed there would be one big dark fool that would become the laughing stock of the world.Hell he already is.Beck and Limbaugh would sread him like a tree sreeder in a debnate. Most kindergen classes would do that much sredding of Obama.

And you make me sick on many levels. I would also suggest trying to spell check your posts prior to submitting them.

Funny thing though, Sanity. I'm noticing a willingness on the part of conservative posters to call other conservatives on bullshit and hate speech that I don't recall seeing during the Bush II years among the liberal posters, no matter how hate-filled and inflammatory the rhetoric.

I'm also noticing that this President does tend to whine a bit more than is really appropriate to the office.

Right.  Do you believe he's whining because it's not true, or because he's saying that it's true?  Gingrich's urging to refer to opponents as "sick", etc. and Falwell's tape weren't circulating up on national TV.  I don't remember Rush bloviating quite as hard as he does nowadays, and few things could match Beck's craziness.

Do you really think these guys raise the level of discourse?

I think he's whining because he's so egotistical he's not used to anyone questioning his decisions.

We never saw a president criticize any members of the media in the past, but Obama has made a career out of not only taking his little digs at commentators and a network, but having the MSM covering his ass when he calls out a Hannity, or a Limbaugh or rips on Fox News.

That is not exactly true, for some reason I remember Nixon having a war with a particular newpaper, and a couple of their journalists.... It was fairly well publicized as well.

Nixon & Watergate were a little before my time, I don't recall Carter, Ford, Reagan, Bush 41, Clinton or Bush 43 appearing on TV to call out a private citizen like Obama has.

It's just like Obama to blame everything going wrong with his administration on Beck and Limbaugh. Cry me a river.

I don't see this as blaming anyone, just a call for more cooperation:

Walking with Smith on the grounds of the White House, the president said that he is "concerned about a political climate in which the other side is demonized" and that "everybody has a responsibility, Democrats or Republicans, to tone down some of this rhetoric."

I would love to see Obama debate either Glenn Beck or Rush Linbaugh. No teleprompters allowed.

This whole teleprompter thing is another ridiculous distraction.

It is indeed a distraction, but pretty accurate. One might even suggest it is why he avoids the pressers at the White House, there is no script, and an oddball question might just start another incident requiring a beer summit. For the record I think the President would do fairly well in an organized debate against either of the talking heads.

subrob, I believe Clinton, did, in fact, diss Rush a few times. When the Republicans came back into power, Rush slid in his ratings pretty badly, because he no longer had anyone to snark at. Now that the Democrats are back, Rush is in his happy place once again.
Obama didn't whine, or do anything shrill. He said, rather thoughtfully, that the rhetoric needs to be scaled back. He is quite right. The hysteria in the media, the popular press like Back and Limbaugh, and the rest are creating a very bad precident and making Americans seem weak and foolish. I, for one, am pretty sick of it.

We've never had a President criticize members of the media before? Really? Shall i present a few examples to prove you wrong?

ALL presidents complain about the media.

Indeed. If an administration is not complaining about the media, it means the media is not doing its job.

Are you actually suggesting these are comparable, RML???

You had a perfectly legitimate dumb comment to go after and THIS is the example you choose?

Is there anyone reading this thread that thinks the political rhetoric on both sides has not gone too far?

President Obama is pointing out what anyone with any sense at all should agree with.

Right here in this forum people are getting more and more confrontational in their posts. I tried to point out sometime ago how fanatic some of us are becoming…and got called a troll.

Every political action has more than one valid take and view. Why can’t we discuss these differences in a civil manner? Even if we don’t change our minds it is useful to understand opposing viewpoints.

Who knows over time your or my view may change because of what is said…but not if we insult each other.

All it takes is a decision not to give in to our frustration and anger and ignore those who refuse to be civil.

Butch

The Dems forfeited any right to complain about civil discourse. They set the fucking bar where it is, they can live in their own filth. Bed - make - lay.

It's that whole "unanticipated consequences" thing the Democrats just can't ever seem to learn about. That worries me greatly when they do things like go fucking with our health insurance.

You did notice I said both sides...so liberals are assholes too...no surprise there. But don't you think it has gone too far?

Rich I defy you to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the "Dems" started it(by the way your post gave me a school yard flash back). You pick a link...and I'll find one that predates it....and so on and so on.

Credibility and hypocrisy, KD. I've been kicking around here for a while, and extreme rhetoric seemed just fine to the Dems not so very long ago. Hell, Hillary Clinton thought dissent was patriotic!

They only care about it now because it doesn't serve their purposes. I notice that a lot with values the Dems claim to believe in.
