jlf1961 -> The FIRST first step to socialized medicine (3/25/2010 5:41:59 PM)

The Social Security Act of 1965 was signed into law on July 30, 1965, and with it, Medicare came into existence.

It was considered the first step in socialized medicine, BY THE CONSERVATIVES, and now, those same conservatives would not dare touch it.

Makes you wonder what they will be saying about health care reform in the future.

Easy. "The whole thing was our idea."

Beginning this year, Social Security will be paying out more than it brings in. The present deficits are so large that they may well ruin us, but add to them the coming crunch from existing entitlement programs and we're already entering into a nightmare scenario thats almost unfathomable.

So whats the brain trust of the Democrat party do? Why, add another massive entitlement program on top of the mess we already have. Its the insane leading the stupid, and thats part of why why theres so much anger brewing out there.

I saw the same story Sanity...net result of all of that is that the so called "year of reckoning" has been moved up to 2037...from 2041.That is the date it is estimated that the SS "trust" would become insolvent....assuming of course no adjustments are made....such as pushing back retirement age or increasing SS withholdings. Both moves considered political land mines.

The health care bill is going to be repealed and there is going to be no money left for my social security. But I already have a backup plan to be a Walmart greeter when I'm too worn out to be a nurse anymore, I'm not worried!

Vendaval -> RE: The FIRST first step to socialized medicine (3/25/2010 11:41:42 PM)

I have been thinking about this too, jlf. A major problem with Social Security is tied directly to the population surge of the Baby Boomer generation retiring. The times are going to be interesting.

SirAldwyn -> RE: The FIRST first step to socialized medicine (3/26/2010 4:44:20 AM)

I hope they run on repealing health reform, cause it will give the Dems everything for a long time

Even now most GOP elected officials are saying it is just a symbol and they are not going to run on repealing it, because they realize they cannot do it.

And a major problem with SS is that soooooo many times congress has dipped into the funds to pay for other worthless things and have never paid back 1 penny of all the money they borrowed since the 80's, perhaps if they paid back what they took out, it would be OK
