Hello I'm a NEWBIE to CM today.. It feels like home already..

I need some quick explanations regarding the chatrooms.

When I enter they ask a few different questions and I'm not sure what they mean.
How do you do a description ? or a nickname ? and what is the protocol around them. ?

Thanks for the info..

PS. whats with the vanilla ice cream to my left ?

:o)

Cheers,

SammDomm

I can't help you with the chat rooms.  I can explain the vanilla cone.  Until you have made 25 posts in the forum it will remain a vanilla cone.  You get different items and designations as you post more.  You can see that if you look at my post count.

Welcome Sammdomm, don't have time for the chatrooms myself, so can't help you.

hello Samm,
here's the dealio:

Each room has a different way to make a description. Don't worry about doing it right away. Check out a few rooms a few times and see if you can find one that feels right for you. THEN you can worry about the description. Some rooms are role play rooms where people "act out" a fantasy .... other rooms are discussion only. Some rooms have 20 people in them and tehy are all in pm conversations which can be frustrating!

The rooms that have certain rules will state taht right up front. It is in the description of the room that you can read before you enter the room. If you are entering via Mirc or another IRC, the descriptions are found there at any time.

As for protocol - unless it's a Gorean room, there isn't really a lot of protocol besides be respectful, don't send pm messages to people without asking in the room first, and get to know people. Oh, and most rooms ask you not to use emoticons because they slow down people's computers. The Goreans have all manner of rules, but generally they are for the slave women.

When you go in the rooms, you will find a list of people on the right. A person with a (.) before their name, is the rooms "owner" or the one who is ultimately in charge. The ones with an a with a circle around it (at sign)are called ops and they are in charge of the room when they are present and the owners aren't. You can usually pm those folks with questions like the one you just stated.

Also, many rooms have a website that is connected to their room. It is usually listed or the op can give you the link.

Your nickname is SammDomm unless you change it.

Have fun! I've met some really nice folks in the chatrooms. They tend to be fairly similar to the people here on the boards, just using a different venue. Seriously the message boards are pretty much exactly like the chatrooms only the message board participants chat more slowly and tend to have lengthier, more well thought out posts. In real life, the same conversations are had. (and the message boards on some nights are exactly like the chatrooms - ten conversations going in different places, arguments, flirtations, philosophical discourse).

Good luck, and have a lot of fun!
sunshine (who can occasionally be found as an op in one of the chat rooms)
