ORIGINAL: Thadius That being said I can't understand why the big unions and government employees get a 8 year holiday on the tax, when any other person that hits that threshold will have to pay a 40% tax on the total cost of their policy. To allow the unions a chance to renegotiate their contracts? Also last I read the tax is only on premiums in excess of $10.2k or $27.5k. Which means even fewer people will be effected in any significant fashion. Definitely could be so that contracts can be restructured. I think it also adds a bit of political cover for the next couple of election cycles. I am thinking that the way it will affect folks is that far fewer of those plans are going to be offered, which will also cut back the expected revenues from that tax. Those are the same thresholds I remember seeing. Thad, you seem to know much more than I on this, what about Doctors? Won't their incomes decrease under this? Some will, some won't, and others are leaving the profession. In theory doctors are going to be getting a whole bunch more patients (which should mean more money), however there is no knowing what the insurance companies are going to do to malpractice rates with the increased exposure. It will also depend on how perm the seperate but equally important doctor fix bill is. Then add in the big chain pharmacy companies like Walgreens that will no longer be accepting medicare, and a number of doctors that are moving in the same direction it makes for an ugly confusing puzzle that nobody can honestly say what the final picture will look like. There are some very good provisions in the bill, but there are some very bad ones as well. I am still not sure how my personal plan will be changed if at all, as this bill pops in and out of a bunch of other laws and regulations changing a word or sentence here and there that has huge effects on other laws, regulations, taxes, credits, etc... It is a messy piece of legislation, that helps make a mess out of other legislation. I think the President said it best today that it will take 4 years just to figure out how to implement most of it properly.
