Join a group.  Church, book club, bowling, dancing, something.

Find a place to have your morning coffee that is nearby everyday, you will meet "regulars."

Take this opportunity to do something new that you have always wanted to do.  Garden?  Raise a pet?

Take this opportunity to make a change about yourself that you have wanted to.  No one knows you, how would you like them to see you?  Have you always wanted to be more outgoing?  Wear a different kind of clothing?  Exercise more?  Now is your chance.

I hope that these help.

LOL

I have found that people sometimes forget that a new place can mean a place to make yourself into more of how you want to be.  There is no one there to keep putting you in the role/place that you have always been.  And of course when you come back for visits, people expect some change and so this also facillitates helping you to become your authentic self.

Begin like you mean to go on.  [:)]

I know that years ago I did something like that when I went to college for the first time.  It was a liberating experience.

My condolances.
Did you lose a bet or something?

DesFIP -> RE: So I am moving to kentucky:( (3/18/2010 1:24:23 PM)

My daughter's in college in a small town. Some of the kids have cars, others don't. You will make friends with the kids who do have cars and be invited along. Just throw in a couple of bucks toward gas every so often and all will be fine. But they will drive an hour and a half to get to an IHOP or such.

this is gospel. the trick to small towns is who you know, or having your own wheels so that you can drive away. :) even if you join some kind of group, it may feel claustrophobic. a non-academic class of some kind might be better, or joining the local gym. i would suggest that you also have an arsenal of creative projects especially that involve making something or learning something new. just putting together puzzles will be the death of you. good luck.

Once you move to Kentucky, immediately pack up and move somewhere else.

I might me moving to Montana soon...
...gonna raise me a crop of dental floss, just me and the pygme pony...

It could be worse, depending on where in KY you might be close to Louisville or Padukah or mountains or caves. Every place has its charms, your task is to find them.

Best of luck :)

Awe man.  What is the big deal?

I would live there.

Just give me off street parking and DSL, and I am fine.

dreamerdreaming -> RE: So I am moving to kentucky:( (3/25/2010 10:50:44 AM)

CHANGE IS GOOD. Learn that.

Kentucky has some beautiful country. Lovely mountains. Go and be one with nature. Enjoy this chance- don't waste it.

kiwisub12 -> RE: So I am moving to kentucky:( (3/25/2010 10:51:30 AM)

Meh! You are going to go to college there? Take the time to study! I know - radical thought, but worth while. Make friends. Read. Take up knitting or quilting.
Don't think of it as being culturally deprived - think of it as an opportunity to learn and live a different way and pace of life.

You can't tell me that a bunch of college kids can't get into trouble even in a small town - because I won't believe you! [:D]
