I have no idea about Maine, but Salsibury North Carolina was a notorious Confederate prison and housed a Confederate arsenal. After the Union soldiers routed the rebels, they looted the town, destroyed the munitions, and set out to destroy the railroad bridge over the Yadkin river. This bridge, about 6 miles east of Salisbury, was a vital supply route to the Confederate forces. Despite the use of artillery, the Union army was not able to defeat the Confederate forces guarding the bridge due to the Confederate's superior position and fortifications. The battle of Yadkin River was the last Confederate victory in N.C. Is it possible that you had your states confused?
