Have you learned to tattoo with henna? Is it difficult? Have you gotten one? Are skin reactions common? How long do they typically last?

I have had henna tatooes. Mine lasted about 10 days, then began fading.
Not difficult at all. You sit there and let the artist paint on your body.
I didn't have any skin reactions. Bit of advice... get it done with clean dry skin, no moisturizers, sun screen etc. I got my first one on the beach in Mexico with sun screen on and the damn things ran and I looked like I had black muck running down my leg. Fortunately when I went into town that night another henna artist saw the mess and was able to fix it for me.

I've never done the henna one, but that one is very nice!

I have had lots of henna tattoos and I love them. Its a great way to check and see if a tat you might want is something you can live with. They last on my skin (very fair) about 2 weeks.
Its not difficult to learn either, but make sure you buy the powder and mix it yourself, do not buy the junk in the tubes...messy and hard to get smooth lines.

Life of the work will vary from batch to batch of the henna.
Allow the paste to fully dry before peeling of the extra.
i've had some that have lasted two weeks.

my friend does beautiful work, 'wish i had some pictures to share.

See, I'd disagree; I've used the tubes before with pretty good results-you just have to cut the tip right *at* the tip, if you want smooth fine lines.

VC, did you use a certain brand? The one I got was in an Indian shop, it was really weird stuff, gelatinous and stringy. Hard to manage.
I don't recall the brand name though, sadly.

I used to get mine from the Indian shop near my school-none of the writing on the pack was in English, so I'm afraid I can't remember the brand name.

And the shop closed six months ago, so I can't even go and check for you :-(

had my palms, wrists and lower arms decorated by my friend's auntie the night before my friends huge asian wedding. Lasted for weeks, looked totally beautiful and I was gutted when it eventually wore off

Shoulda went to the local tattoo parlor and had it made permanent. They don't wear off! I wish I could have seen that! I love the hand ones! They are so cool!

This tread has made me think of a terrible thought...

Henna in the hands of a sadistic dominant...

Evil things could happen.
