..you're either Military, former Military or family of Military.

Anyway- this is a boast thread.

My son was just given the Challenge Coin of the COMMANDANT of the MARINE CORPS!!!

Yup, James T. Conway, 4-star General, on the Joint Chiefs of Staff, shook my son's hand and handed him the coin.

And then, the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corp did the same thing.

It was a very proud day. Only 10 Marines, out of thousands, were chosen on his base to receive this honor.

He told me it was his best day in the Marine Corp.

--->proud momma[:D]

As a Navy wife that just got a case, so I wouldn't have to chase said coins all over the house, I know what you are talking about...lol

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Tell him congrats and congrats to you for raising such a fine young man!

I remember such coins.  The challenge with the coins is when you're in a bar, a group would say something about having a said coin and when the coin is produced, the person who did not have the coin has the buy the next round of drinks.  This can be very expensive.

Sheesh, when I was in the Navy at the club I think a long neck Bud was 40 cents or something like that.

You're not supposed to gently put your coin on the table, you're supposed to slap that sucker down LOUD!

Mine's on the dresser. I keep forgetting to put it in my new wallet. I actually got nailed with a challenge for the first time in maybe ten years a week or so ago by a friend of mine who's an ex-Marine and I didn't have the stupid thing on me. Figures.

GreedyTop -> RE: If you know what a Challenge Coin is.... (3/13/2010 9:51:02 PM)

CONGRATS to you both, Hejira!  I know you're so proud of him *hugs*

That reminds me..both of my brothers got an Team Spirit coins when both of them were stationed in Korea.  I did not get mine because I got out before that exercise.  But then, I don't go into bars these days...I know better..LOL!

Thank you, Everyone! Yes, I am very proud of him. And when son #2 joins, I will be just as proud of him. (and just as confounded as to how this New York, third generation of left-leaning, feminist Jew raised two Marines! Oy!) [:D]

Regardless of WHICH branch of military either of them join...  they are doing it because you raised them with solid values.

*smooches to you all*
