We just got a 32% increase on 1-1-10.   PPL.

This after the prior year had a 4-7% increase.   The prior year was 9%.

Well they just filed a paper with the utility commission.  For - an INCREASE.   They soften the blow- by saying this is not a generation fee but a transmission fee.  So what?   We say- generate the power- but I will pick it up?

These increases are troubling- PA lifted rate caps even after Enron screwed CA.

Notice how anything they can quantify- that they then can control- in this case a price increase.

I once did some digging- and the board of directors are interchangeable- with- are you ready?    The so-called competition.

I did switch companies- but PPL most likely is the "transmission"  company.

Did you electric rates go up?

What does it cost for a month to run your house?

PaHunk, what's the name of your power company? (Penn. Power, Penn. Power and Light?) Perhaps you should think about buying stock in it if they're going to be making a lot of money!
The last few months I've paid close to $100 down here per, but that's for heat and electric.
We've had the coldest winter here in 12-15 years!

If you think a 32% rate hike is high, just wait until the Obama administration tries to ram Cap and Trade through.

eerrr I dunno. I don't really open the bill, but now you have me curious as to what it costs and how much it varies in winter. I was told though, weird as it sounds, that the AC costs more in summer, than the heat fan in winter.

I am guessin' it is about $125/month-ish

*and where would I find a notice of increase???

arg k checked. July, 144.40 this past Feb, 94.30. wow, that is fuked. Because this was a cold winter.

I'm on the 'budget plan',,a monthly average. We pay $217 a month, every month. I feel it's a bargain considering what you get for it. I'm not complaining..

We pay about 150 Euro/200 Dollar for electricity, and about the same for gas per month. We heat and make warm water with gas, but supplement with and wood burning stove in th main downstairs living area during the winter. I love the heat from a fire going in that thing.

This is for a three story, plus full basement and attic, ca. 3000 square feet house.

Then they wont like when I revoke their easement thru my property?

If a utility does not serve the public good- I am not obligated to honor any easement per my land.

except for that point that much of the state of PA is subject to the increases.

wouldn't it be something - if I could actually trigger that?

FR Write to you state utility board and complain about the increase as they are the ones that approved it.
Ask the power co for a copy of the papers that gave permission to raise it.
That amount of increase is ridiculous.

Last year when I was using electricity for heat my bill ran around 400. per month.
Now it is under $50.

I agree. Here it's the Public Service Commission...not sure what it is in PA.

My electric bills have dropped. So has my use, but not by all that much.

I also choose the "fixed rate" option every year. Sure, at times power is cheaper, but it can spike incredibly during peak times and especially cold/hot days. Let the power company carry the risk.

I have been off grid for the past 25 years. Which means I have not had an electric bill in 25 years.
My cost per month amortized over the life of the system is approx.$15 per month.
Since you are in the city you would not have to purchase batteries as the grid would be your battery bank.

A whole community benefits. When folks can solve needs.

- so another plus.

(sometimes I have to point things out for the ladies to notice- and I am sure the off the grid thing has some appeal)
