Go to a Barnes n Noble, and get some books. There are some great instructions in them on shading and lighting...day looks and evening looks. You don't need to go to anyone. Just also invest in a good makeup mirror.

I know someone in Vegas that can give you lessons. She does charge though it is minimal compared to some I have found and I don't remember her rates. I would need her permission to put you in touch as well, but if you are interested, shoot me a C-mail.
