Status: offline 		I've contacted schools after schools but all they want me to do is enroll in their beauty school to become a full fledged cosmetician.  I don't want that.  All I want to do is learn how put make up on.

So can anybody recommend anybody or any place I can get this accomplished?  In Vegas, of course.

Status: offline 		Have you tried places such as photography studios, theaters, film companies, drama schools? If you're prepared to buy your own cosmetics I don't see this as a major difficulty. Look for people who work with models, actors, and ask them.

Status: offline 		Try the library.  Look for books on applying stage makeup.  You can also pay a visit to the local mall and hang out around the department store makeup counters.  They're always giving free demos to people.

Specifically, what kind of make-up do you want to learn?

The everyday kind that people wear to work and school? Or stage, film, TV, etc? Or perhaps fashion or special effects?

You have some good suggestions here. I also suggest checking out some of the local beauty supply stores and talking to the staff there. You also have numerous wedding chapels in LV. The women in bridal parties often require hairdressers and make-up artists. And don't over look the spas and salons in the major hotels.

Status: offline 		Or, try google (its not a bad place to start).  I googled "how to apply make up" and this was one of the first links I found.  With a video and all!

While there are some side video's on how to apply make up for certain people or for certain looks, but if you scroll to the bottom of the page you'll find the main tutorial video that will give you the low down for applying make-up.

Unless you've been wanting a reason to go to Vegas?

I strongly suggest the make-up counters. I've gotten most of my best make-up tips from them. Just go, find a brand and sales rep you like and make an appointment with her. Show your appreciation with how many products you buy and she'll be more than happy to see you again if/when you have more questions.

Status: offline 		Seriously, most of them are like vampires.  They only come out at night and when they do, it's hard to get a hold of them to talk to, let alone ask a favor from.

Status: offline 		Never tried that, however, I have gone to Sephora and Mac but when I ask too many questions (with all willingness to buy the cosmetics), they have this annoyed look on their faces and I tend to shy away from that.

I have a few books about make up.  They're hits and misses.  Sometimes, their techniques works (usually the basics), other times not (smokey eyes, cat eyes, etc.).  And that is where another person would be helpful.  What am I doing wrong?  Any other techniques?  Is it because of the shape of my face?  Etc.?

I've tried Youtube-ing a few techniques but again when I follow the instructions and it doesn't come out the way it should, what am I doing wrong?

It's hard to say without seeing your face whether or not it's the shape of your face. There are all kinds of ways to work with your face shape. You might look up tips for working with your particular face shape. What are the things that you would like to accentuate and tone down about your face? That's a good place to look, too. What is it about applying make-up that has you so frustrated and thinking you don't know how to do it?

Another thing, take a day and get out your make-up and play with it. try doing different things. Wash off, then do something else. What colors are you using? Are they colors that look good with your skin? I love pink, but it doesn't always love me. Make-up is about accentuating your assets, so take that information and run with it. I still think that going to the mall, more specifically, Nordstrom's, and going to the make-up counter and letting one of the cosmetologists give you a make over. Ask them to explain to you what they're doing and what colors they're using. You might try watching someone to see if you like their work then ask them to work with you. Anyway, that's the best I've got. I hope it helps.

We'll have to agree to disagree.  Stage makeup books will teach about shading to help conceal flaws, soften features one wants to conceal, highlight others, and even adjust the shape of lips, noses, and eyes if a person wants to do that.  (Example: I hate my nose, it's way too big, but I can use stage makeup techniques to give the illusion it's thinner.) 
 
I'm not saying make this your only resource, but it's a place to start.  Use makeup tips from fashion magazines, go to the makeup counter and get hints, watch shows like What Not To Wear.  Play around until you find a look you like.

Status: offline 		I was part of the drama club in high school and my first two years of college.  I learned to do makeup in my theater classes.  I don't wear makeup often, but when I do, I still use some of the techniques for shading and shaping.  It is what one makes of it.

oh sorry, the 80's are over.

OP, why even wear makeup? You are young, invincible, incredible...don't ruin it because of the standards of hollywood or others. Keep the chemicals off your face. They only age ya.

*my girls live in Vegas, not that that matters, and they wear too much makeup IMO. I don't nag, I bite my tongue, only because they are adults and didn't ask my opinion. arggg

but ok, if you have to wear makeup, one rule, keep it neutral, earthtones and avoid anything with sparkles (they age you), the less the better.
