You know the whale could be thinking its playing rather than attacking. Being in captivity it is exposed to all different things from humans. I mean the whale doesn't "know" human lung capacity or body is more fragile than its own. So while yes it could have been eyeing this woman thinking she is an enemy -- he could have also saw a chance to play OR i wonder if it could have thought her pony tail was some kind of food? Especially if they sometimes feed the whale by holding food in the air or dangling same. There is also a descrepency as this article says it grabbed her by the pony tail not the waist as the op article states. That he had her in his mouth and blood appeared could mean they don't know the harm their teeth can do to a human, just as sometimes dogs don't realze it when they are playing. He also let her go and reached up and got her again, who knows if he thought it was a game? They are using words like violent and attack because she was killed, and its sad, because they really have no clue what the whale was thinking or doing. Its easy to make it into a frenzy of negative about teh whale when you use words such as violence, blood, and attack. People see this as a negative concept of the whale and "killer" concept, when it simply could have been the whale thinking it was playing or being fed. I find it sad that they associate it with the animal negatively doing something just because while tragic someone was killed. angel
