I can't believe what a big deal all this snow is making in the US. I've lived through this every winter of my life! Just go out and build a fort already ;-)

purepleasure -> RE: Snowmageddon: The Song (2/13/2010 6:55:58 AM)

What makes it a big deal, is that the areas affected are equipped to handle a 2-4 inch snowfall, max. These same areas have had 3' or more of snow in just the month of February. If your average snowfall per storm is 3', and in one storm 9' or more fell in ONE storm, how would Montreal handle that?

Ahhhh les Quebecoises, well equiped for the snow lol. In all fairness though, there are a lot of areas in the US not accustomed to huge snow falls, or in some cases for any snow at all. Not like Toronto where the National Guard is called in because they got a huge dumping and panicked.

DarlingSavage -> RE: Snowmageddon: The Song (2/13/2010 6:59:49 AM)

We don't normally get a lot of snow down here in Texas, but we got 12 inches on Thursday and I'm really surprised to see that there is still snow on the ground today, Saturday already! At least this time, it snowed during a winter month. Last year, we got much more snow than this toward the end of fucking MARCH!?!?! Usually, but March, it's Summer here. The year before, it snowed in APRIL! I've lived here most of my life and I have never, ever, ever seen snow here in those months. It might happen up North, but it just doesn't down here.

That would be us, as detailed above.

Like we handle all snow, with snow plows, winter tires and boots! We had a snow storm last year where I woke up to 5 feet of snow in my back yard.

I have never in my whole life had school or work cancelled because of snow. Ice storm yes, but only because the ice on the hydro electrical lines was cutting the power out throughout the province.

I guess with the major weather shifts, areas that never got snow before will have to start planning it in their strategies!

Yep, and les maudites snowclearing assholes were pulling their usual shit. We just got on with it. Took longer to get anywhere but it happened.

Actually I found last year was more effective than previous years in Montreal. I just slip on my Canadiennes and put on my fancy little tuque and hop over snowbanks!

Really? Wow. All I saw was a video of a whole bunch of people dealing with snow, kind of like what we do every here here, except for this one apparently... but it's far from over!

There IS something rather fulfilling about stomping one's way through snowbanks! [:)]

It did get better towards the end of the winter but I find that in my neck of the woods they do a  crap job. Hopping over snowbanks isn't an option when they are high enough to ski down. The buggers still don't sand the sidewalks, I'm planning on buying skates and skating to and from work.

...yeah-  every storm is a media event.   so this vid was mocking that.    throw in a dash of terror for extra jab.

and it is correct that Montreal is rather efficient at snow removal.

Maybe I need to be afraid of snow to see the terror.

We actually don't have much snow right now, quite unusual: http://www.montrealcam.com/en-placecartier.html

We are expecting a few centimeters tomorrow and Monday.
