HisSweetElysium -> Ladies--we had a long hair post a while back... (2/11/2010 7:46:18 AM)

hey ladies, I wanted to reconvene our long hair post, this time on the subject of styling it.  I need help!!!  I want to do some cool updo type stuff,  part up part down, and or some more artistic weird things, but I really don't know how to go about it, I feel like my arms aren't long enough to manage it all, LOL.  Any tips, pointers, etc?

Talk to a hair stylist.

LadyPact -> RE: Ladies--we had a long hair post a while back... (2/11/2010 7:48:17 AM)

I'm sorry, I'm sorry.  I saw the title and immediately thought we were going to discuss long hair pulling/playing.  Forgive the intrusion.  I'll take My hair fetish elsewhere.  LOL.

what Lady P said....

LOL well we can talk about that too, though I'm shying away from that, I am concerned about my hair thinning. :P

I understand I can talk to a stylist, however I'm looking to do it myself b/c I don't have extra $$ (hence doing it myself) and since there are women here with long hair, I thought I'd start here.

I have wondered what sorts of things were possible with my hair, it is a little longer than in the photos... like down to my butt, I pull it up into a pony tail, or I leave it down in curls... sometimes I pull it up with barrettes

Julia yours looks really nice and thick, I bet there's tons of options for you.  I can DO long hair on other ppl, it's just really hard to do it on myself.

Someone recently advised me to bleach my hair and then dye it back to it's natural color, as it will hold styling better. Ummm, NO!!!!

alot of times Hair Schools will be happy to play with your hair and help you out AND lesrn a lesson in the process.. and it is sometimes free.. maybe call one and ask ? and also i am a bit confused as to what it is your are wnting ? Hair Bondage type styles or more serious styles for everyday or evening wear?

pahunkboy -> RE: Ladies--we had a long hair post a while back... (2/11/2010 7:57:32 AM)

That is the most asinine advice ever... my sister does this, but she is getting lots of gray and her hair is thin. She can only keep it shoulder length, it breaks off from the treatments

My Daddy wants to do this with ribbons woven through my hair. He has tied my hair to things to keep me in place.

Alright. . . here is a web page to start with:  http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/promstyles.htm

I bet that You Tube will have some stuff as well.

The problem is, I do not actually know how long your hair is.  I do not know what "kind" of hair you have.  I do not know what you have tried in the past.  I am not real sure what kind of look you are going for.  I do not know if you have any joint issues.  I have no idea what kind of hair accessories you have.  I do not know how much time and effort you have to put into this project.

Sure. . . I can do lots of styles with my hair.  I usually go for a french braid.

I would look over the website, maybe find a you tube thingy and go to a beauty school or beauty supply shop and talk to someone about it.

And please keep in mind, the people in those pictures are models.  Just because you get the same hairstyle, it will NOT make you look like them.

I actually started responding to some of the local craigslists ads for hair models in my area, to see if people wanted to add to their portfolios.  Most want to cut though, and that's NOT what I'm looking for.

I'm looking for bondage style hair, but also cool, avante guard stuff too. I'm building an alt modeling portfolio, and there's no budget in the shoots for a hair stylist, but I'd like to show off my long hair to it's best advantage.

I'm on a modeling site and see all KINDS of cool stuff I'd love to do, but have no idea how to go about it, hence part of the frustration :)

I know, my mother is a victim of years of perming, frosting and dying and her hair looks like dead straw.  Not attractive.  Julia I don't see a link for ribbons, but it sounds so pretty!! :)

dang, Julia!!  GREAT pic... and I am jealous of your hair.....

Hi Aylee, thanks for the website, I'll look through it and see if I can figure anything out. My hair is waist length, slightly wavy and pretty fine. It's never been dyed or processed, so it's very healthy. I have tons of pins, clips, elastics, etc and can easily get more, but they tend to slip out from the weight and smoothness of my hair. I find my arms get really tired doing my own hair though, and I can't see what's going on in the back. I can't do a french braid at all on myself, (I can on others) I do two braids pocahontas style pretty regularly, that's easier.  I'm doing all this for modeling, so I'm not worried about looking like those girls, not exactly my aesthetic anyway.

I appreciate your advice though, I'm trying to work with the beauty schools, but again, they want to cut, and that's out....

You can either learn a four stranded braid or weave them through with a safety-pin attached to the end of a ribbon afterwards.

Thanks... I decided that the boobage had to go... I am not as much of an exhibitionist as I thought[:D].

that's a good idea, start with ribbons bobby pinned in and try to braid it from there.  I love what passes for long hair on those sites, the only person I've found that has hair even approaching mine is Amy Winehouse....
