I've just received my third out of the blue 'friends' request from God knows who on this site.

So I've decided to expand my social circle as of midnight tonight (UK time) to include Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II (no messing around with me, let's start right at the top), Prince Charles, Prince Harry, no, in fact let's make it the entire Royal Family, Gordon Brown, David Cameron, oh and Barack Obama because I really like Americans, so we'll throw in the Senate, Congress, Britney Spears, Eminem, everyone working in Hollywood, Quentin Tarantino, all the football players, baseball players, hockey players, oh and all the rugby players and football players back in the UK...

..let's see... everybody living in Wales and Scotland, anyone who holds Canadian citizenship or an Australian passport, every American (including those who are living abroad or teaching in Korea)..

If you're reading this posting, you're my friend, whether you like it or not, and please don't argue with me..

In fact everyone in the world is my friend as of midnight.. Everyone.

Okay?

That's sorted, no more friendship requests out of the blue.

Yes I am being a little sarcastic here. I'm pretty broadminded when it comes to friendship and relationships online, I accept them, all that needs for the friendship to start is a bit of interaction between us.

However some people seem to think 'Invite to friends' means the same as 'Add to basket' on other sites ..

If these people imagine a friendship to be between people who've never spoken with them, then I'd hate to think what they imagine sexual intercourse to be like.

So, my friends, what do you think?

Stella.. I get what you're saying..

I've had several out of the blue friend invites (by the button and by cmail) recently.  One of them included a rather racy poem from some guy I'd never even SEEN on the other side.

When I declined his invite to being a friend (hey,, I STATE CLEARLY in my profile what I require from 'friend invites', not to mention the poem followed by "lets be friends" probably wouldn't be met with approval by my HUSBAND...)  the guy asked (in txtspk *gag*) why not...

*sigh*

Oh yes I know those ones

And I regular happily press the decline button

If I have regular email exchange with someone and get to know the person...then fine, I dont mind...however, someone who does not know anything about me??? Not gonna happen...

that being said I also had two occassions where I decided to remove people from that list again as their behavious was far from acceptable in my view of values....and I had no interest to be potentially linked to them (one male, one female).

Also when a person seems to turn silent forever once I accepted it and that was all the communication was about then I am happy to remove that person again (also happened once).

So it has to be a certain amount of communication, or so at least that I know we still are involved with each other, as I have no interest to have dead data lieing around in there

This site isn't so bad, but Facebook? I've got so many people sending me friend requests, and I don't any of them.

There oughta be some kind of Fuck Buddy status for that... somewhat analogous to Friends...

Can I be your FuckBuddy Steven? Please please please, with sugar on top?

I'm feeling a little needy right now, since stella doesn't want to be bestest friends anymore.

Doesn't having someone as a friend allow you to check their posts easier? If so stella, they probably wanted to add you for that. Why not ask?

I get the random friend requests. I hit decline and move on. I have always thought these random guys send the friend requests to me so when someone opens their profile they look like the "big man on campus." For the people I actually AM friends with on this site, most of them aren't on my "friends" list. I just figure since we talk regularly anyway, who is that "announcement" for?

I've never heard about it making it easier to see the person's posts, but who knows? Maybe it does. I will say that if that is the cast Stella, I would send you the friend request, just because I always enjoy your posts.

I usually tell people that they failed to send me a note and that I don't blindly accept requests from people whom I've never even spoken to. If I click over on their page and discover that they have 500 "friends", I just click deny.

I use a vanilla chat site sometimes when I am bored (not working and spending all day at home makes you do strange things). I quite often get a message from someone that says "hi" I say hello back and their next message is "can we be friends" Fast way to go on my ignore list.

To me a friend is someone you know well not someone that has said "hi"

I think some people are lonely and by having so many 'friends' on their profile it makes them feel more connected. Or it allows them to say, "look, I have lots of 'friends' so I'm popular". I find it very juvenile. I rarely accept friend requests. If it happens to be someone I speak with on a semi-regular basis, I'll add them, as it does make it easier for me to see if they are online. I currently have some 'friends' that I haven't had contact with in quite sometime and need to do some housekeeping in that regard.

But yeah, it can be rather annoying when it comes from someone who hasn't even bothered to introduce themselves to you.

Celeste this wasn't someone from the boards but from the other side. If it was someone from the boards and we'd interacted either on a thread and that interaction continued into an exchange of messages then I would have probably clicked on 'Accept' because to me even such a simple, transient exchange can be seen as friendship.

But it wasn't. I admit that I have a broad definition of friendship and 'friend' but it doesn't stretch to anyone who you need to introduce yourself to.

But I think LaT and Phoenix have a great idea with the 'Fuck off' button. This is the great advantage of the English language in that we have such a phrase. It's probably one of the few phrases which are truly international.

My way of looking at it is if someone felt me or my posts were interesting enough to want to add me as a "friend" then I should be interested enought to warrant a "Hi! I really enjoy your posts and wanted to add you as a Friend, okay?"  Instead they are just clicking a button without any real interest in having a conversation.

I agree with Domin8tingUrDrmz, I think people want to add a lot of "friends" so that they will seem popular.   I've even had people I have met in real life, who in real life didn't give me the time of day and now they send a friend request?  Naw, don't think so.

I got a couple of people from here on my Facebook account.  I get a few more people if I figure out how to get fellow kinkers on it.
