Manure is made usually of grass material after digestion by animals; enamels are made of sand and silca. Not sure how one would turn into the other. But adobe buildings and straw bale buildings are an interest of mine; most building codes usually have a section that specifically describes the requirements for unburned masonry buildings such as these. As part of a experimental project for my firm, we designed a straw bale building and are looking to construct it perhaps this summer. An architect I studied under, Nader Khalili, actually made a career out of his inovative process of building adobe houses in Iran, then using drums of fuel oil to fire them from the inside, making them fuse together and become stronger and watertight. Fascinating stuff. OP, not sure if you are looking to make houses or jewelry, but these are some interesting ideas.

erinroe... You're welcome. Please feel free to send me a private message with any updates as to which direction you choose to go in construction-wise. This topic, alternative building styles, is one of my favorites and I love to hear of others progress/ideas. Speaking of ideas....I googled the architect AnimusRex mentioned, Nader Khalili, and found this link, http://calearth.org/ which might give you inspiration...I know it gave me some definite food for thought. I love the style and the way he incorporates the natural elements in his designs...
