From last year's journal entry... ~ The Day We Met ~ Did we know it when we woke up that morning 183 miles apart? Absolutely not! Neither of us would even allow ourselves to believe it possible to feel what we were about to experience a few hours later that day. We were two people, secure in who we were, confident in ourselves and where we fit into our neighborhood and the world in general. Trusting ourselves, wanting to be able to trust another, but facing a common past of committing to people unworthy of trust. We weren't looking for each other; we weren't looking for anything but a good time and someone to share it. Having in common a desire for a 'lifestyle' that one had experienced and the other fantasized. Having tried and failed, bruised literally and figuratively; wearing the scars of lost battles, but never unconditionally surrendering. Happy people, who enjoyed their own company. One day you are laughing at anyone who is foolish enough to believe in; 'Love at first sight', 'the ONE', 'Soul Mate'. Then, after a glance into each others eyes and a simple hand-shake greeting, you're living it. We had no expectation; a cynical man meeting the optimistic woman just out to have a good time. Not realizing when they woke up that morning that by the time the sun went down that day neither would ever be alone again. Here's to Pea Soup Anderson in Beullton; a hand shake, a 'jack & coke', a 'scotch on the rocks'. Our thanks to all the tourists there on that perfect March 1st day, who took up all the parking spaces so we couldn't stop. We're grateful for the 'lost' couple who came up the deserted road that "nobody comes up" (per beth) who made us look for a more private place to go. Our appreciation to the 'Kon-Tiki Inn' who had a room that faced the ocean, that we didn't see until the next morning. Thanks to 'McClintocks' who served a great 'Santa Maria' BBQ. Of course I remember! It was just yesterday...
