Canon's website hasnt helped.  The calls to the various numbers haven't helped.  Is ther ANYONE here that has knowledge of this camera that tell me WTF an ERR05 means?

It pops up and won't let me actually take a picture.  Just does a 'click click click' and stops.  No shot.  GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Error 05 simply means the popup flash didn't extend properly.  You should be able to reset it by taking out the battery and memory card, remove the lens, take out the backup battery (go all the way down to empty camera body), leave them out a few minutes.  Make sure the flash is down and reinstall everything.
Power up and manually extend the flash.
Don't forget the internal backup battery.

Holly, how can you be able to do all that but still not answer a cell phone?

i worked my way through nursing school as a photographer.

My answer was a cut/paste though. I wanted to look it up before giving wrong advice. It has been YEARS since i picked up a camera for anything serious.

I have one, and the above is correct.

Thanks, folks.   I've tried the on/off bit.. no joy.   Holly, I did what you said, same thing.  Of course, not having realized that there WAS a backup battery, it occurs to me that maybe I need to replace it (if I can figure out how to get the damned thing outta it's little holder..LOL).

Getting the battery out is easy. If indeed the flash is stuck down, you may want to take the camera in for service/cleaning.......(unlike doing what I do and wedging a finger nail in to make the flash pop up and then cleaning things myself.....)

I rarely use the flash as I prefer natural/existing light but when I do, I get frustrated if it won't work.

unfortunately, it seems like mom and pop camera stores are a quickly dying breed around here.. sad.  The stores I *can* find are either about 30-45 minutes away, or do sales ONLY, no repair etc.  I dont want to take it into a big box store, because I generally don't trust their so-called tech/repair services.

hah!  Like I can afford it.

This one was a gift, thats the only reason I'm not stuck with only my point and shoot (which isnt a bad camera at all.. I just enjoy having more options as far as shot composition than a point and shoot allows)
