PrimalConsonance -> Does anyone ever use the chatroom function on CM's message boards? (1/12/2010 10:54:28 PM)

I see this option on CM, and I've actually just popped in there to see what may be going on.  I can safely share with you all that every time I try this feature out, I don't anyone actually in there chatting.  It looks like an interesting feature, but looks like not used much.  Has anyone else ever ventured onto these message board specific chatrooms?

I have a couple of times actually but either no one was around or no one was chatting so I left.

No. Didn't even know it existed until I read a thread about it.

I used to go in once in a while to see if there was anyone of interest there. Whenever people were actually in the room, the chat was completely inane.

Have a few times checked it out for curiosity sake but have not yet partook other than a introductory greeting. Likely will continue popping in on rare occasion and in hope one day something sparks my interest. Thus far mostly rooms have been empty or the chat tended to be idle chit-chat of little substance or of interest to me.

Some room profiles do spark my interest, especially the more esoteric and thus my curiosity remains. I likely shall continue to visit at random until curiosity is sated.

Years ago, I went in and was disappointed. I ran an experiment and was even more surprised. No longer would I be but I tried to get help in the chat stuff and everyone pretty much told me to RTFM.

Then I noticed the women got more attention - so I created a profile (lynn something if I remember correctly) and went in to chat as a female. Boy oh boy, I couldn't believe the help I got!

I concluded it's much easier to get things done as a girl because the guys practically fell over their feet trying to give me private assistance. I learned all I needed to know in 1/100th the time it would take me to learn it on my own. I've extended this to the Internet, always asking questions as a female and getting the answers so very much easier than if I were a guy. It's amazing. Lucky women. Help is only a keyboard away.

Still, as the "real me" on CM, chat is, sad to say, back to boring and uneventful and I quickly gave it up. Even these message boards, which I enjoy, I give up once a month or so because it's sooooo one way. There's almost no two-way communication.

On CM there is a tab for chatrooms, but what I'm talking about is right hear on the message board side of CM...right above the thread topic, you'll see this:

 Enter the "General BDSM Discussion" Chatroom  or if on another area, you'll see it for say "Ask a Master" or "Ask a Mistress" as well.  I've found the general chatrooms on CM are just like any chat room that you would find on the old IRC channels.  Just a lot of "hello"s and such, but I see this function on the message boards and think that it would offer more discussion in addition to the message board chatting.  Interesting though I've never seen anyone in any of them.

There was some activity in the message board chatrooms, especially when they were first introduced.  The "Ask A Mistress" room was perhaps the most active.  Since the video chat on the site has grown, though, there has been little activity in the message board rooms.

You can create a password-protected room in the video chat, so you could chat with a group of people about some message board topic -- or anything else -- without the interruptions that might arise from being in the main room.  You don't need a camera on your computer to participate in the video chat (you just won't be broadcasting an image). On the other hand, this offers a way for you to see the person you've been emailing, without either of you providing offsite contact information -- which might be useful for some users with privacy concerns.

As I posted a few weeks ago, we're expanding the video chat room's functionality.  Nina Hartley, Ernest Greene and Anna Mills did a demo in the room just before the new year, and I heard from Anna Mills yesterday, so we'll be setting up some more events.  Either I or Sigma will post about upcoming video demos soon.

I used to be able to use the chats here. Now... for some reason I cannot. I have redone the java... have tried different things and it is a no go. So I don't go.

You is having the wrong letter of the Greek alphabet on your Avatar thingy. What you have looks more like the letter Xi to me IMOSHO:

ξ = Xi
ζ = Zeta

The CM Video Chatroom is a blast, I don't get in there much anymore, but you can count on a bunch of polite people having fun in there.

Ironically there was an article in todays metro about how people were feeling suicidal since watching Avatar because life can't match up

This is why I generally wait until movies come out on DVD because they aren’t so impressive on my tiny TV with mono sound.

Good. That's Darwin's way of weeding out the helpless twits!

I haven't seen Avatar, but I can imagine how some people would react that way. I felt something very similar after seeing Peter Pan when I was four (fell in love with him *sigh*).
