ORIGINAL: pahunkboy My sister now has had some time to grieve and is soon ready for a new cat. There is one glitch tho. Her husband is allergic to cats. So- she asked me to see what I could learn. I see some breeds claim to be hypo allergenic- that it is the cat saliva and not the fur that makes the up to 5 cat allergens. So to score a nice cat where she can still keep her husband- what to do??? I see they want like $5000.00 for one... which is out of the budget. They had a cat before, wasn't he allergic to that one? Have they looked here? Hypoallergenic Cats This one has tips for reducing the allergens... Hypoallergenic Cat Breeds Wikipedia has some stuff too.... Wikipedia The only sure fire "hypoallergenic" cats are going to be purebreed, and the rarer breeds at that. If they don't want to spend the money (I love my cat, but she was free, I wouldn't have paid), then they need to have another alternative. LT, while your suggestion is very good, unless the cat can be taught to shovel snow and take out the garbage, well, those are two of the few things that those pesky annoying husbands are good for (til your sons are old enough to do it, lol)
