First off this isn't about golden or brown showers so hold off on those comments lol

I'm throwing my sister a Bridal shower.  This isn't her first or second wedding.  Like most I do think it's tacky to have yet another one.  But a lot of her friends and my family have been annoying me to throw her one.  So I caved.    Her friends are catering the food.  Gonna do some girly drinks and maybe punch?

Any ideas ???

thanks ..

Okay i KNOW this is gonna sound horrible lol but my first thought was a glue shower so maybe this time it will stick.

I also am not a fan of subsequent bridal showers, so maybe you can throw her a fun bachelorette party instead. OR instead of an afternoon thing throw a brunch for her,

A friend of mine did something really unusual for one of hers, she had one of those hostess partis with the kitchen stuff ohh Pampered Chef for a bride party and people bought stuff for the bride (as well as themselves lol). It was interesting. grins or you can have one of the sex toy parties for her lol i think its called like sugar and spice. or one of those lingerie shows,

I also found this site that may give you some fun ideas.

Is there an open or not so open 'kink' factor to her or her partner? Is there a theme ... color or otherwise?

Curious,

Lady Challene

lol angel!  That did sound horrible but funny :).  And well that theme was so her last one.  The glue theme was my mother's idea lol.    I was kinda of thinking of the above ideas also.  Since it will be mostly friends so it could be a lil more fun then stuff.

The kink door is definatly closed there lol.  No theme really kinda of liking the idea of the sex toys/ lingerie party tho.  And color theme is gonna be black and blue if she makes me wear an ugly dress lol

I was thinking that but figured coming from me, it would sound as completely jaded as I really am. You pulled it off with no 'jaded' factor. I need to learn the trick of doing that.

Divi lol i edited to add a site you may find useful for theme ideas.

Huntress i have my moments lol usually that would have come across very jaded.

i agree it is tacky to have a shower for anything but the first marriage (and even then i have an issue with them).

Since your sister has her home set up, perhaps a theme that is a bit out of the norm? Instead of gifts to the bride, everyone can make a charity donation in her name.

Buy a lovely stationary and send a few sheets to each guest with the request they write down a favorite memory, thoughts and wishes for her and the groom, etc. As they are returned, put them in a scrapbook for her. You can but scrap booking items (little decals, etc) to go with each story sent to you.

Send out recipe cards and compile a cook book for her made up of her friends favorite dishes.

Ask for photos of the guests and make up a photo album.

And as far as drinks..truthfully that fluffy punch (Hawaiian Punch or something,  mixed with ice cream and never enough booze to make it taste good) is really a dud (sorry...but i know of no one that really likes it). Perhaps go to Sams club and buy one of the ready made tubs of the fruity drink mix...Margaritas etc. and the rest of the beverages can be for grown up tastes...a few bottles of wine, mixers, coffee...

barelynangel -> RE: Shower Ideas (1/9/2010 7:06:01 AM)

Also, a cool thing to do would be a theme of a couple do list.

For example, what do she and her Man like to do together, movies, watch sports, dancing, clubs, theater and instead of gifts for the home, favorite restaurants, travel, weekend get aways places etc, get them things like (even if it means people going in together) tickets to a game or show etc or plane ticket, gift certificates etc reservations at a wonderful hotel for a night on the town type idea, a dinner for them and friends at a friends house. This way its focused on them time - which in this day and age is needed. Maybe some fun site seeing stuff around their city. Or maybe a gift certificate to one of their favorite deli's for a picnic lunch catered for them. etc

pahunkboy -> RE: Shower Ideas (1/9/2010 7:33:28 AM)

I vote to have a naked man jump out of a cake.

Maybe even Bear.

I also vote that all attending get her books and tapes on making it work.  self help books.

for the 3rd time a little sarcasm IS in order.  because- it does get rather pestery to shell out money time and time again for a gift.

to those who do not get married-- throw a ME party- and expect gifts.

kiwisub12 -> RE: Shower Ideas (1/9/2010 7:55:19 AM)

Heck - don't make it a bridal shower - make it a friends get to-gether, dump all the cheesy bridal shower stuff, and since she surely can't need towels and pots and pans, I second the idea of bringing a favourite recipe, and maybe some nibbles on a plate or piece of kitchen ware that will be left with her. Serve real drinks, and have a good time.

DarkSteven -> RE: Shower Ideas (1/9/2010 10:37:18 AM)

holly's got the right idea.  Make it a time for people to share their memories.  For a third wedding, if you try to tap her friends, it would get ugly otherwise.

NuevaVida -> RE: Shower Ideas (1/9/2010 10:42:21 AM)

Wow I'm loving these ideas.  Brunch is a great idea, even if it's an at-home brunch, with mimosas, coffee, tea and juice.  It's a congratulations-celebration in my mind, not a "Here - we'll help you start out" kind of thing.  I love the photo & recipe ideas.  Since it's not a traditional "shower", why not make it a party for both - and make it co-ed?  A friend of mine did that for me when I was getting married a gazillion years ago - and it was great.

I'd want him at my party!

LafayetteLady -> RE: Shower Ideas (1/9/2010 4:11:33 PM)

Well, a third marriage? A bridal shower? I'm going for the theme party. Everyone has to provide a book of some sort. "How to get and keep a man" "Divorce for Dummies" "How to Be a Good Wife" "Divorce Made Easy"

If she has a sense of humor, it could be fun. If she doesn't, well then she is going to be mighty pissed off. If I had to give someone a "shower" for a third freaking time, I would probably be pissed and not care if they liked it or not, lol.
