When you come on to cm there is a picture and profile of someone whether you are actively looking or not. At least on mine there is.

Here is my question:

For those of you who are actively looking, is it a turn off, turn on or does a red flag go up when someone is wearing a mask?

Does the mask make the difference? Be it surgical or a hood. Does it matter that you can't see their face or do you just by pass that and go by their profile?

theRose4U -> RE: i was just curious about something (1/6/2010 9:38:49 PM)

I understand. My "public life" would be adversely affected if the more puritan people I work with "found out" thus my use of an avitar over a pic.

Doesn't bother me - obviously from my pic.

I understand very well why people are reluctant to hide their faces. My rule is that I simply don't send out face pictures. If someone wants to meet me at a munch or a play party, I'll do that pretty easily but that is how you get to see my face.

sappatoti -> RE: i was just curious about something (1/6/2010 9:52:48 PM)

In general, since I have somewhat of an interest in masks, a photo showing a masked person would catch my attention faster than one without the mask. It'll draw my attention to the rest of their profile faster than if she/he/they weren't wearing it.

As to the photo being a turn on, turn off, or a red flag... that would depend upon how the photo is composed. Not every masked person would be a turn on to me, just as not every scantily clad person is a turn on for every person in the mainstream. Short answer is it would depend upon the photo.

Great answers everyone. Thanks! i came up with that question because i saw a picture of someone in a surgical mask and it just felt odd to me.  It could of not been the mask at all maybe it was him. i don't know. i just felt strange about it.

Maybe i have ESP :)

MistressTonya2u -> RE: i was just curious about something (1/6/2010 10:24:25 PM)

I want to see a face photo, more than one actually, before I will consent to meet with someone.

ForeverOwned -> RE: i was just curious about something (1/6/2010 10:31:43 PM)

That is smart. i think the best thing to do is to put in your profile will send picture on request or something like that rather than hide your face. i do beleive though that some people are not trying to hide they are just trying to seem sexy and mysterious. Some of them though i wonder.

AquaticSub -> RE: i was just curious about something (1/6/2010 10:42:41 PM)

Or we just want to cut down on the number of times we hear "HEY! Aren't you from that kink site!!!". [;)]

No, I just ignore the profile. I can very well understand why some people won't post identifiable pictures, but there are quite a few creative ways to show oneself without the risk of recognition. I fail to see the point of a mask, could be anyone, right? Lack of imagination type of thing.

LafayetteLady -> RE: i was just curious about something (1/6/2010 10:56:59 PM)

I can't say it is a turn on or a turn off really. There are a lot of variables that come into play. AquaticSub's masked picture I first saw over here on the message boards (becaue I don't search female profiles), and never gave it a thought. When looking at potential dominants on the other side, though I do view it differently. The example you gave of a surgical mask first makes me think of Michael Jackson, lol. Honestly though I would have looked over his profile to see if he was into medical role play. Then it makes sense. But when someone posts their picture and deletes their face, so all I see is their body, it is a turn off for me definately. I would rather not see a picture at all. When someone posts an avatar, I just assume the content of the avatar appealed to them and don't even consider anything else about it, good or bad.

With AquaticSub's photo (sorry to keep using you as an example, but yours was "nearby"), it is a full body shot, she is obviously dressed for some event, so I don't think anything about it. Now if she were sitting on her couch at home in jeans and a sweater, I would think it was odd. Same with anyone.

I don't post a picture on my profile, but I'm not against sending one out on request. As long as it isn't the first thing someone asks for. That always turns me off. As though it is the most important thing to them. It isn't to me. Yes, physical appearance matters, but I want to get to know them a bit first. This has led to good and bad results. I have had wonderful conversations and then received pictures of people that no amount of good conversation and alcohol would create a physical attraction. Yes, I have gotten the greasy hair, toothless, straggly looking characters. I just can't muster up attraction. Then I have had those who insisted on sending pictures right away, even though I told them I wouldn't give them mine. There are those that always follow up with the "well, what do you think?" which always seems like they are fishing for the "oh you are really hot." Then there are the ones who are really attractive and turn out to be such assholes, and I'm always mildly disappointed.

So essentially, if the mask seems to be appropriate to the picture (or like sunglasses when someone is clearly outside on a bright sunny day), I don't think much of it. A surgical mask and no interest in medical role play? Yup, back to Michael Jackson thoughts.

Owlet -> RE: i was just curious about something (1/7/2010 3:54:29 AM)

It depends. If it were the Catwoman mask from the Halle Berry movie, I'd be really turned off and fairly disgusted. If it was the sweet goggles from the comics? Hell yes. These are very important distinctions!

DarlingSavage -> RE: i was just curious about something (1/7/2010 4:06:43 AM)

I would say that it depends on the picture composition, but personally, I want to see a face. Several face pictures. I want to know what someone looks like. I don't mind sharing pictures with people at all, either, but yes, there are definitely some folks around here that want to hide what they look like. Why? I don't know, I'm never going to see them in person without seeing them in here first. I sure don't want to waste any time on anyone that wants to stall on showing me their face. Sorry!

NuevaVida -> RE: i was just curious about something (1/7/2010 8:01:02 AM)

Doesn't bother me in the least.  Some people just don't want their faces on a public kink site.  I know I don't, so my face is not recognizably on my profile.  My owner doesn't have a photo at all.  It wasn't an issue for me.  As we began conversing, we exchanged face shots.  I'm pretty patient - all in due time and I was OK with waiting to see his picture.  Apparently he was OK with it, too.  When we first began emailing, I didn't have any pics on my profile.

trealeon -> RE: i was just curious about something (1/7/2010 8:44:34 AM)

My public photo doesn't show my face for the same reasons listed above. I will always send a photo with my face to anyone who asks or anyone I contact through here. I find many people in the same boat as me and don't hold it against them if they don't have a clear picture (or a picture at all) as long as I'm able to exchange pictures with them before too long.

Jeffff -> RE: i was just curious about something (1/7/2010 8:46:35 AM)

Every time I meet someone, they tell me I look nothing like my picture.

I tell them it was the lighting.

Jeff

LaTigresse -> RE: i was just curious about something (1/7/2010 8:54:04 AM)

Why did I read that as 'lightening'? Thinking.......Ward.......stay inside out of thunderstorms ya fool!

I don't care one way or another about masks. Whatever floats their canoe.

thetammyjo -> RE: i was just curious about something (1/7/2010 9:12:38 AM)

I'm out.

Anyone with me will by necessity be out to some degree.

So yes, masks in profile pictures do turn me off because it immediately makes a concern that they can't be as out as being with me would require.

lally2 -> RE: i was just curious about something (1/7/2010 9:40:19 AM)

not being someone who is into masks worn by D's, it isnt something that does anything for me. though ive worn a hood and i loved that - apprehension element there.

i just assume its their fetish and move on really.

No, I don't have any face pictures up right now, but that doesn't mean that I won't send them if someone wants to see them. I've had face pictures up in the past. I just don't have any up right now.
