Dabbling in hypnotism is like navigating a mine field while blindfolded. You may make it out the other side just fine, but if you accidently brush up against something the results can be disatrous.

It's one of those things better left to those that are qualified.

I agree. I saw some people get hypnotised in a demonstration when I was in college. One of the participants had a bad reaction to it and the hypnotist had to snap her out of it immediately.  Its really not something to play around with.

psychonaut23, thank you for giving a positive and useful answer to the question.

OP, if you are serious about it. . take his advice.  There are many ways to begin.  And while it isn't something to play around with, everyone has to start somewhere.  Do some research in form of books and online.  Be aware that those sources (especially online) aren't always the best or most accurate.

I'm lucky enough to have a Dom who trained in hypnotism. . it is a WONDERFUL addition to our relationship.  But He didn't just pick it up from a book and run with it.  Be sure you get real training before playing in people's minds.

comment on the subject hypnosis if one is not aware is basicaly aultering in the mind of another the manner they preciev things to be able to change the actions they do based on that perception .. any time you mess with something as fundamental as what one precieves it is not a place to go to play .. the best example i cna give to put it clearley is this . under hypnosis one can not do a thing they would not if not under . it is a myth. if you precieve athing weather it be a conditioned beliefe or learned beliefe you shall react to that wether it is a good thing or a threat think about it before playing with it or allowing anotehr to play with you in that

I am interested in learning about hypnotism. Can anyone recommend a path forward?

There are many reasons why someone might be interested in hypnotis. I became interested in it because my sister was a hypnotherpist many years ago an I had had a session with her because i wanted to accelearte my creativity and prodice material for a course I was writing.
It worked!

I trained as a hypnotherapist in 1997 and practiced professionally up until my decision last year to quit the profession in order to concentrate on writing. My understanding is that there is a distinct difference, for me at least, between the therapeutic application of hypnosis and use of erotic hypnosis for personal lifestyle choices. Even though the initial part of my training was couched in the usual models of depth psychology and suggestion I had to keep myself abreast of current developments and of course within a structure of continuous professional development. It is with great love and gratitude that I had the great fortune to be trained in the approaches of Carl Rogers (client-centred approach), Milton Erickson, Ernesto Rossi (ideo-motor response and hypnotic healing) and the amazing David Grove (the use of clean language). I have never used a hypnotic script. It is for me always within the moment. I have some links here.

I would also suggest:
--  going to see a hynotherapist (making sue of their credentials)
-- reading extensively (those are my favourite guys although you need really to understand the depth/suggestion model that starts from Freud first)...
-- don't get involved in so-called online hypnosis
-- if you want to be Dom and do erotic hypnosis find as many others to talk this through with. There is an informative erotic gypnosis grou on fet life.
-- if you want to take the submssive posirion good luck in finding yourself a safe hynoDom(me)

Prinsexx's suggestions are spot on. The only thing that I would add is to seek information and styles from a variety of sources

It's actually far too porous and soft a "science" (if it even deserves that title) for there really to be "qualified" parties.

At least in any semblance of the term "qualified" that is intended to be more akin to neurobiology, for instance, as opposed to cold reading.

Sure...

1) Buy a pocket watch

2) Repeat, "You're getting sleeeeeepy" while dangling said pocket watch in front of someone.

3) Order them to do kinky stuff with Strawberry Jell-O.
