I didn't want to derail the other thread to turn it into a food thread, but since Christmas dinners are always so awesome I thought we could post what we're making.

I bought asparagus but I'm not sure it's going to work, the shops were picked clean of the good stuff and I'm debating whether this is something I want to try serving.

But aside from that we're having an Angus sirloin roast with sauteed mushrooms and onions, roasted herb potatoes and shallots, and for dessert vanilla bean ice cream with sliced mango.

Fun fun I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!

Pork roast rubbed with spices and Dijon mustard, cornbread stuffing, candied yams, brussel sprouts and asparagus wrapped in bacon with homemade biscuits.

Since I spent the last two days baking, there will be no pie!   My kitchen countertops are buried beneath mounds of cookies, all sorts.

And Lisa that sounds delicious. I've never had cornbread stuffing but I love cornbread and I love stuffing so I can only imagine I'd love cornbread stuffing!

Your dinner sounds absolutely wonderful.
I plan on making a turkey again...lol..I let my family vote and since I only cook turkey for the holidays, thats what they wanted...I cook mine in the oven over night.
I set the temp to 170-200 and when I get up the next morn at about 7 I turn it up...I am having all the standard trimmings with it as well...sage and onion stuffing and gravey home made biscuits sweet potato  casserole mashed potato ,peas and butternut squash...then desert is apple pie and pumpkin pie...I am taking help from the stores for that, I am a lousy baker...lol..I hate following a specific recipe much like I hate following rules for the sake of following them...a rebel I guess, even in the culinary world...*chuckles*

Lisa, what you are having sounds devine as well and I hope all of you enjoy your meals and the day.

P.S. Stand the asparagus overnight in a jar of water in the fridge. Snap the spears to where they naturally break in your hand.  Throw the bottom part away. Saute the tips in butter and olive oil til just tender. Sprinkle with sea salt, ground pepper and a spritz of lemon juice.

It is Christmas morning and the menus have made verity so hungry, she does beg for a decent biscuit recipe. There are hundreds on the internet and none have been to the liking of the children so far. Any help would be appreciated. We do not do Christmas, but most of the friends of verity are Christians, so we found a comprimise and will be doing lunch tomorrow by verity (the second Christmas day in Germany). We will be having a variety of salads, lamb rips, lamb koteletts, chicken legs for the children, with baked potatoes and sweet potatoes done in a rosemary oil, for dessert we are having apple in blatter pastry, a type of layered pastry (cheating on the pastry part, buying the pastry itself from the shop and making the apple pockets with that). Also a whipped vanilla cream and maybe a pudding or cookies, seeing what verity manages until tomorrow.

It is 2:25 a.m. cst, and Santa has came and gone. The rest of the house is sleeping. Not sure why but I feel really giddy and excited. Hardly conducive to sleeping..which I should be doing.

Christmas meal is fairly traditional for us. Turkey, corn on the cob, mashed taters and gravy, cornbread stuffing, green bean casserole cheesy style, dinner rolls, and lots of junk food and cookies. Egg Nogg is all his though..eww. We sort of voted cranberries out of the picture as it ranks just above a fruitcake.

Status: offline 		Greetings Masters & Mistresses!Howdy chicklettes! Everything above sounds absolutely delicious!!!!  Makes me hungry just reading it all! Hmmm... before I head off to bed for the night... I figured I'd post the menu for the evening tomorrow :)    We're having a big ol' ham with my sweet and sour pineapple, honey, and bourbon glaze,  a dish called ruby potatoes (baked potatoes that have been cooled and shredded in a ricer then mixed with sauteed onions & butter, sour cream, and extra sharp cheddar and then baked), green beans cooked with bacon and onions, homemade baked beans, candied yams, corn (for the wee ones who love corn!), salad, various relishes, olives and veggies, fresh baked rolls, and for dessert, a mandarin orange cake :)  Definitely NOT a dieter-friendly meal to be sure!   Master doesn't get off of work until 8 pm so it will be a late supper but I'm happy to have family and friends to share the day and night with! Merry Christmas to everyone and Happy Holidays - I hope your day is absolutely WONDERFUL!!!! xoxox Cav's ally

I will be going to my sisters who cooks a huge xmas day dinner comprising of roast pork with crackling, roast chicken, mashed potatoes roasted parsnips roast potatoes sausage meat and sage and onion stuffing balls cauliflower brussel sprouts carrots peas yorkshire pudding and loads of gravy

Greetings girlies and lurkers,

We had our Christmas dinner last night, shared with good friends. We started off with puff pastries with mushroom sauce; then came turkey, stuffing, potatoes first boiled then skinned and fried in chunks, and because my mother is Danish, red cabbage cooked in vinegar and sugar. Then came the salad and garlic bread.

For dessert we had the traditional Danish rice dessert which is rice cooked with more water than usual, cooled and then lightely whipped cream and finely chopped almonds are added. It's served with thawed raspberries or strawberries. Traditional Danish almond cookies were also served, along with coffee and my mother's awesome eggnog.

Status: offline 		For lunch we are having macaroni and cheese from scratch - the kids favourite thing.

For dinner we are having honey baked ham on the bone, smoked turkey, cheesy potatoes, mushroom risotto and broccoli salad. For dinner we have pumpkin pie, pavlova, vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. Yum!
We would have more green , but no-one would eat it except me, so why bother.

Its going to be great to have the kids here.

The menu here is our traditional Christmas ham with pineapple slices, mashed potatoes, green beans, and dinner rolls.  Add Me to those who have baked treats all over, so didn't do an additional desert.  There's plenty of cookies, brownies, and candies to satisfy the sweet tooth.  All holidays get the standard veggie tray, meat, cheese, and cracker assortment, and deviled eggs.

Status: offline 		It's been a tough year so I'm roasting a Muscovy duck which I pounced on and strangled whilst it was sleeping down by the pond. Also hijacked a shopping cart from a lil old lady in the super parking lot so am making the best of what she had as side dishes. Bitch had some lingonberry sauce from Sweden in the bag. My fav, yum!
Shit...those parking lots have security cams now, eh? Better eat fast.

Status: offline 		I am making a turkey, a Ham glazed with Brown Sugar and apple Juice, Bread Filling, Sweet potatoes with utter and Honey, brussels sprouts with Butter sauce, Creamed Peas, Harvard Beets, Carrots Vichy, Fresh baked rolls with Honey Butter, Cranberry sauce, Gravy,  A peach Cobbler with Ice cream, Pumpkin Pie, and a cherry cheesecake

I also Do baked goods baskets for Gifts so spent the past week Baking Pumpkin rolls, Cream cheese cookies, Strawberry bread, And Chocolate dipped Pretzels,

Whew, I am tired, But I love cooking and baking for the Holidays,, Thaank God I decided to cut back on the food due to the poor economy, Many years I also Made 2 kinds of fudge, Peanut brittle , Cranberry Orange Nut bread , and Pizelles

Status: offline 		I've got a 6-pound ham marinating in a dutch oven right now. For the marinade, i start with 2 and a half pounds of dark brown sugar, add 1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. I take 2 large cans of sliced pineapples in heavy syrup, and drain the syrup into a bowl with the brown sugar and spice. I then add  1/4 cup of honey and stir it until it makes a thick, even syrup, almost a paste.

Then I slice 2 large red delicious apples, aged about a week or so until they're almost - but not quite - at the point of spoiling. I lay a bed of apple slices on the bottom of the dutch oven, then pour in the marinade and submerge the ham into the marinade. I push the remaining apple slices down between the ham and the sides of the pot, and lay the pineapple slices on top. Refrigerate overnight, then take out and let it sit on the counter for at least 6 hours before baking in the marinade.

That'll be the centerpiece of my dinner, and I'll have corn and 2 different kinds of sourdough biscuits with it. Ben and Jerry's is supplying the dessert. Nice big fire in the fireplace, freshly cut spruce boughs from the back yard, and the Nutcracker Suite on the sound system, and I'm all set.
