Christmas eve, we had wieners and potato salad, which is traditional in many German families.
Today was the big "battle" day, the whole family at our place. My sons were responsible for starters and dessert (and put in a lot of work), I provided the main course and the surroundings.
Starters were "the worlds best" garlic bread, mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil with olive oil and balsamico, and teeny tiny tomatoes filled with prawns in cocktail or yoghurt dill garlic sauce.
Then we had beef tenderloin and porkloin medallions, spätzle and bread dumplings, green bean packages baked with tomatoes, onions, and garlic, and chanterelle with bacon and onions. One simple beef gravy, one creamy green pepper sauce.
A cheese tray and a moment to let it all settle down a bit, before we had portwine cream for dessert.
Tomorrow, on the second day of Christmas (traditionally, in Germany Christmas starts of with Christmas eve, and lasts the next two days) we will have a traditional Christmas dinner of roast goose, potato dumplings, gravy, and red cabbage with apples. Dessert will be vanilla bean icecream with hot cherry sauce, and starters will be the leftovers from todays starters.
And then we will drop into a food induced coma. [:D]
