Anyone else into crafting? I enjoy scrapbooking, and just incorporated it into the journal I keep for Master, which has been nice. More artistically, I like doing digital paintings like the ones on my profile, and hope to do a photoshoot with Master next month, so I can do some that have us both in them.  Anyone else find kinky applications to their crafty/art hobbies?

I crochet off and on and if necessary, have wild sex on the afghans I make.

I make chain maille jewelery - and frequently wear an anklet with bells on it.

And i quilt and we have slept under a quilt i made for Sir.

And i knit .... and i can't think of any bdsm applications for that.

Kiwi I would LOVE to learn how to make a beautiful quilt for just such a purpose. I've embroidered squares before, for group gifts where everyone does a few, but I've never assembled one myself.  Did you make it special for you two?  Do anything specifically? I'm really into symbols and such, so I'm curious!

If you are looking to get started, log cabin quilts are very easy to make as they are just straight seams. I love the symbolism of the one red patch in the center as the hearth burning in the home.

I didn't start to make the quilt specially for him, but as it progressed, it seemed to be destined to be his - it has a lot of burgundy in it , and that is his favourite colour. It actually is circles in squares, where the background material seems to flow across the circle, so they are connected. It really is pretty cool.

as far as symbols go, the quilt i made when we found out that Sir has cancer is very symbolic - lightening bolts, cages, angry colours. It isn't a pretty quilt. but it is powerful- at least to me. I let a lot of anger and grief go with that quilt.

and if you can make the blocks, you can make the quilt. There is a lot of paraphenalia that makes quilt making easier and faster, but, really, you don't need it. You can still end up with a beautiful quilt. One thing you should do is google quilt groups in your area- you might be surprised, and they are the people who can help you get started.

Quilting isn't hard, it is just a bit tedious at times. And if you are already a crafty type person , you are used to a bit of tedium.

saw quilts, had to come over.

i love making quilts, i imbue them with as much personal symbolism as i can, and love to give them away.

i'm planning on making one, called a "caned seat". perfectly innocent name. such a wicked name

it will be in some nice lovely shades of purple. why? hehe

and there will be knotwork around the edges. and a special border to match a nickname/personality.

quilts are wonderful, the things you can make them mean....

hit me up on the other side if you ladies want a great website for quiltmaking.

Oh that sounds so beautiful, I love personal symbolism, like creating your own visual language :) unfortunately I don't have the space to quilt, tiny city apartment, and I don't even have a kitchen table :( Oh and I don't know how to use a sewing machine either, though somehow people managed to make them before the advent of that technology, so I could probably make it work.  I'd love to see pics if anyone wants to share!

Caning quilt!?  Oooh I likey!

I quilt as well and need to do another one for our bed.  Will have to look up that caning quilt.  HEHEHE.  I started beading pictures, went from there to nursing necklaces, and the materials I used for those translated into the collar I made for Slave.  Silk cord is so strong!  Not to mention it passes in the vanilla world for nothing more than a necklace.  LOL!  Even his ex commented on how nice it was.

My Mammaw used to make quilts by hand, in fact, they are great because you can take a square or two with you anywhere you go, and you can sew them by hand! I wish I still had the one she made for me, but then again, it was used when my father (her son) passed away, so at least I'll always know where it is.

As for me, I've done all sorts of crafty things...and I have the leftovers to prove it! Mostly I like costume making, I can whip up an 1880's dress, or an Italian renaissance dress in just a day or two. I'm also happy to say that one of my daughter's friends from high school got bitten by the bug courtesy of me, and she made her own renaissance wedding dress and bridesmaids dresses this year.

hmmm that sounds like a beautiful collar!  I like beading too, my scrapbook pages often have beading, sewing, etc worked into them too.

that's why I like the knitting, just throw it in a bag and go, but not too many practical applications.  I think I could swing the quilting if I had someone to talk me through the steps. I love to do embroidery and stuff, it's so fun and I have these ideas of doing traditional quilts in sort of goth/modern fabrics, or doing modern goth imagery with traditional colors.

I would LOVE to be able to make clothes too,  one of my guilty pleasures is Project Runway.  That and being able to make corsets!?! Oh la la!

Its nice to know there are others out there still doing traditional crafts. I wonder sometimes about younger generations, and things getting lost. My grandmother taught me how to knit and sew and embroider, I doubt I could tear a 10 yr old away from IMing their friends long enough to learn anything, let alone something that requires patience.

Another quilter here  Oh, and I crochet, bead, and make handmade kinky toys, some of which now live with various members of CM

You name it, I've done it, lol.  I started out making doll clothes with my Grandma's help when I was in grade school, then progressed to making my own clothes in high school.  I made a ton of different kinds of Christmas ornaments then, beaded ones, felt-stuffed and sequined ones, etc. When I got married for the first time, the Christmas tree had nothing but handmade ornaments on it (except for the lights!).  I also learned how to knit, crochet and embroider in those days, and carried those hobbies on into my 20's.

I was heavily into counted cross-stitch in the 90's and made a lot of pillows and wall hangings. I also did some quilting and have a box of fabric that you quilters would drool over    Not only do I still have fabric swatches dating back to the 40's (my great-grandmother's), I once found a huge box of fabric at a yard sale that had light to dark shades of just about every color of the rainbow in it....beautiful stuff, and I only paid $5 for the whole box!

More recently I've done scrapbooking and beading/jewelry-making.  But my focus is on home renovation at the moment, fixing up the house I bought last January.  In the future, I'd love to try stained glass.....and I'd love to make a big, furnished Victorian dollhouse for my granddaughter.
