Evidently. Not saying anyone is right or wrong the but the fact that "playing" is in the phrase really keeps me from seriously believing it's about being open, honest and demanding what your worth.

Well that just semantics.

Perhaps if it would be phrased, "be hard to get"
"Dont have sex unless you feel ready and comfortable and you both want the same relationship"?

I don't think KoM was saying you should engage in sex before you feel ready in the situation. Simply that playing hard to get isn't being honest and transparent because it's a game. A strategy, if you will, to win the prize.
