Has anyone else noticed there is more obvious fake profiles or bots on here than I have ever seen before? Is it just me?

Well, there HAVE been more posts complaining about them.

There have always been the bots.  I haven't noticed an increase or decrease in them, though.  However, after all other life on earth has ceased to exist, they will still be here along with the cockroaches.

Don't worry, it's a seasonal thing, like allergies.  The number will decrease again when school starts back up in January.

In My observation, there are multiple threads related to this subject each week.  I actually have to report spam about once a month.  With that in mind, I would absolutely have to say that the former is more annoying than the latter.

I have had to report scammers and such but there are so many profiles that are just so obviously fake .. I mean some have pictures from no later than the 80's some are pictures scanned from magazines. Do you think these are put there by the operators of the site or just idiots who have nothing better to do

Neither.  They are posted by scammers trying to take advantage of idiots.

The modus operandi is to find some horny net geek who is so turned on by the beautiful picture that he turns off his common sense and opens his wallet to some lovely who needs $$ for relocation.

I dont even think its about $ because I dont even think they are women .. but who knows.. its all just really annoyinng. seems like 2 out of 3 profiles are fake in one way or another on here

It most certainly is about money, but you are right that most scammers are not women. They are men sweating over their computers in an internet cafe in West Africa or eastern Europe, hoping like hell to reel in people desperate and clueless enough to send them money. To them, it is a business, nothing more. That said, they would not do this if not for the many many folks gullible enough to fall for their BS.

I've noticed more and more obviously-fake profiles as well. I can only speak for female profiles (as that's what I'm seeking) but it seems to be especially true with black subs/slaves in particular. The 419 scam is NOT dead, it just has an incomplete, often non-fetish profile, blurry or tiny pic (only one) and a short, often badly-written profile.

I'll be honest and say that I've had my share of fun teasing some of these (3w -dot- 419eater -dot- com is a giggle of a site) and have even been able to get a few to do some tricks for me. I can tell you for a fact that yes, they sometimes ARE who they say they are (the aforementioned tricks have included "verification photos" and live video streams), but that in no way should imply that the girls are acting of their own volition or honestly.

While systems like Captcha would help reduce bots and the like, it will never defeat a determined (if ultimately stupid) scammer. They may not be the brightest bulbs on the string but they have the apparent luxury of time and nothing better to do. All we can do is be vigilant and not let them win.

I'm with LP - threads bitching about fakes are more annoying.

Yes, I've noticed. Over the past couple months, I've had far more immediate re-directs to YIM than ever before.

Myself, I am losing interest with the other side, due to what people here complain about, for I have seen it myself and am starting to get the impression that what is on the other side, really is not worth bothering about. A recent happening, is getting viewed, then a message sent, offering me computer work and giving a yahoo address to respond to. Now as a rule, I don't respond to anyone giving out an ofline email address which I have not asked for, I treat such messages as spam, but, it becomes a wonder, when the profile that sent it, looks to be normal people, like a couple in wherever, usually,some state in  the US. Now, not replying to a message, I deem as rude, and am having to break my own rules and not reply to these similar types of message, as I believe them spam.

But, as I do have a genuine interest in meeting people, I now use elsewhere, another free BDSM website for the purpose of meeting people, as here, it is becoming increasingly unreal.

No, I have not, but that is because I rarely look at profiles.

Well I did cut back on my extras.  I am down to 20 now.

One profile is like owning just one pair of shoes.   Dance shoes are not good dress shoes are not good garden shoes.
