Kirata -> I've never seen anything like this before (12/13/2009 3:30:04 PM)

Anybody know kind of plane this is? What the underwater launch platform is?

Or ...that the video is faked?

Helluva clip no matter what. Take a look.

No clue what kind of plane it is, but your right, it was a very cool clip. Thanks for sharing.

Looks like an F-18 Hornet.

thornhappy -> RE: I've never seen anything like this before (12/14/2009 4:31:59 PM)

Nah, 'twas a (faked) F-15.

ThatDamnedPanda -> RE: I've never seen anything like this before (12/14/2009 8:57:15 PM)

I can't make out for sure which it is. The engine intakes look more squared off like an F-15, but the rear edges of the wings look straight all the way across, like an F-18. The resolution's just not good enough to tell. Either way, it's pretty cool, even though it's a fake.

Definitely an F-15 used for the fake vid. F-18 wings are narrower when viewed from a top angle.

Yes....I do....that'd be an airplane (and a fake vid to boot).

(I'm here to help....open weekdays 8 - 5, weekends on call).

F-15, F-18, mere details...

Obviously a sea-launched missile with the plane added. Note the burst of water under the emerging object --that's the compressed air used to pop the missile to the surface before the rocket engine ignites. Probably old Polaris or Poseiden missile footage. One wonders why somebody would fake a video like this, if only to occupy the mindless hours of the net population commenting on how fake it is, what kind of plane etc. Even me..,,,look..."Polaris or Poseiden" type missile! I fell into the trap!

TheHeretic -> RE: I've never seen anything like this before (12/15/2009 9:58:45 PM)

I'm thinking it's a MiG, but I'm not sure of the designation, and just too lazy to research it.  The canopy is closer to flush with the rest of the body than on our stuff.  Pretty damn close to the F-15.  Definitely not an F/A-18

Go to the YouTube link above and there the clip is labeled with the jet being an F15. Couldn't prove it by me, but that is what it says there. While there look at the clip titled "Trident 1 C-4 Launch" and go to the 30 second mark. The spray and takeoff at that point seems to be the same as the one used to fake the jet takeoff including having to pan from the right to the left to center the launch and the slight zig-zag that the jet does immediately after launch.
