Disable ALL hotkeys and keyboard shortcuts.

I am about to get clean off the fucking internet over this. A fucking half an hour typoing and all the sudden it is gone.

FUCK THIS. Remove ALL hotkey features from the software. Windows is fucking bad enough. Goddamn.

How about you just learn to type a little more carefully?

That "Save" key is a good one that I'd really hate to lose......

I've had this happen from time to time so avoid it, I sometimes use MS Word, saving often.  Once I'm finished, I copy and paste what I've written.  Just a thought that I hope helps.

I have to admit I didn't know what you were talking about.
I found this list of stuff you can do in XP, who knew? http://www.helpwithpcs.com/tipsandtricks/keyboard_shortcuts_windows_xp.htm

Of course I won't learn any of it, except Control S, that sounds worthwhile. I just don't start typing until I know what I'm going to say.

Many of those shortcuts are active throughout the most popular word processing programs, so perhaps being more careful is the answer.  In Microsoft Word, I frequently use "select all", "copy", "paste", "print", "save", etc.

Simple, don't put your trust in computers, treat them with suspicion, and there adopt a policy of backing up anything important to things off the computer. A computer is a tool, nothing more, and the more complex a tool, the more possibility of it going wrong, just like a complex mechanical perhaps clock work device, just think all those logic gates in those silicon chips as mechanical switches running on bearings that wear and break for no reason other than they break from time to time, or a bit of fluff jams in the gearing slowing things down and causing other parts to fail or jump to an incorrect answer through pressure created by the forces involved alone.

Logic gates have on, off, and an indeterminable state, it is the latter state that is the question, and because of this, I don't entirely trust computers, they like mechanical machines can fail for the hell of it and be right as rain in the next instance. Perhaps the indeterminable state is the state nature created, to teach us not to trust tools entirely.

This happens to me all the time on this message board. I sympathize but know of no workarounds that I am willing to accept. Specifically this message board. I don't have the time or the infatuation with my own words to type out a response to a thread in a separate editor or word processor. I also need to see what others have written and refer back to in, and the editor screens often make me feel isolated from the subject. So I always type in the thread editor, make lots of typos too :), and frequently lose my post. I think fast and type even faster and I'm not going to slow down my typing just to avoid hitting one of numerous keys enabled in the forum software that cause text to dissappear or your window to close or to page foward to a blank screen (my favorite :/ ) When the message poofs I don't have time to recreate it usually, so I live with saying only about half of what I try to say.

To the person who metioned there is a Save key in the forum editor, would you mind sharing with us what that particular key is? Being able to do periodic saves in this window would be awesome. I don't care about save keys in other programs/other editors/other vbulletin forum software. I never have this lost post problem anywhere except on collar's message boards.

Exactly what "hotkeys and shortcuts" do you think this place has?  If you're referring to the ones in your browser software, I don't think that CM can do anything about those.

Using FR

OK so I am a whiney little bitch, so what. I guess it could be worse, on one forum hitting the Esc key will delete all you typed immediately and it is not recoverable.

And typing while drinking ? I don't think so. I would have to replace drinking with shooting, raping, pillaging and plundering and so forth.

And being the one whoM started the thread, I wasn't sure if the M actually belonged there. The rules about that have been my main nemesis on the subject. Actually forget the M totally I say, so we stoopid people don't have to reveal our weakness so readily.

I think what happens is my hand comes down on the Ctrl key and something makes the words disappear. Ctrl+ something does it. I believe it is in the online editor. I don't run into this problem with either Word or notepad. Incidentally does anybody know just how fast something like Word 97 or whatever runs on a slick P4 with a couple of gigs of ram ? All my old programs, I can't blink an eye before they are up, running and ready.

Maybe I don't know much about this, but it sucks. Oh well.

I think it saves on the fly to the original file if any. But don't take that to the bank. If you have to take it anywhere might I suggect a hardware store ? One with lots of hammers in stock.

Computers ugh. I posted a rant so bad it got pulled, about the nags. Fucking thing gets a balloon on the screen saying basically "Something is happening that you did not authorize and probably don't want, but Bill Gates says you need it". I say, you got two fucking gigs of ram, use it and don't bother me dammit. This shit is enough to piss even me off. I know when the scroll knob stops working I am about to get a message on the screen that basically says "You must register at our website to maintain your privacy".

Who(M)ever wrote that must be pretty damn immune to brain damage. It comes from McAffes, which I did not nor ever would put on a computer. Norton's either. I'll go with AVG. Even it has a nag, I got until Dec 1st to upgrade. Ummmm, what is this the 4th ? You would think the thing would shut the fuck up, Hell no. I believe computers were invented to bother people these days. If there is a hell, I will extract our revenge.
