Happy Thanksgiving.
I'm spending my first holiday with him. Just the two of us. And the dog. And the guinea pigs. And the hamster.
Full spread of all the traditional food. I am a lucky woman.

Thanks Kirata!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and everyone else!

Pies and dressing cooked last night. Doing pudding, sausage balls, and wraps this morning. Turkey in the oven about 2ish, and then veggies and salad to be made closer to dinner time. What might be surprising to some is that much of the cooking for Thanksgiving is being done by me, and not my slave. She is from the North and we cook things a bit differently in the South. She is learning though, so next year she can make the cornbread stuffing, pumpkin pies and maybe the gravy.

So what else are people having for Thanksgiving?

Turkey, bread stuffing (making that right now) mashed potatos, corn casserole, gravy, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, and last but not least, pavlova.

Nothing green - because no-one would eat it. *sigh* what to do, what to do????

Heya Kirata!

Thank you, and wish you could have joined us this year, maybe next.

Orion,

All the usual's, except as you know, in the north (at least in this house) we don't have cornbread stuffing.  We do however have two kinds, one is a sausage stuffing, and the other is Brule's favorite, just a sage "dressing", cooked outside of the turkey.   I did the pies yesterday, and from the apple pie filling I canned this past summer, we have a fresh apple pie along with the ubiquitous pumpkin and pecan..

Which... brings up a cultural thought, is it dressing or is it stuffing???  My family has always called it "dressing", it was only in my adult years I knew stuffing and dressing were the same.

But whichever you call it, and whatever is on your table, I wish you all (mostly Americans) a happy and joyous Thanksgiving Day.

Best wishes,

Liz

Hiya Liz,

I was taught that if it is cooked inside the bird, it is stuffing, and if it is made outside the bird it is dressing. Not sure what the official cooking school would say though.

Take care,
Orion
