I just had a guy cmail me "Do you like this?" with a picture attached. The picture was taken from the angle of a man looking down on a woman with his balls in her mouth, his penis flopped to the side. The woman is looking directly into the camera. Never mind that it's a stupid introduction. I happen to love performing the depicted act. And I enjoy looking a penis pictures (just not as a part of getting to know someone). But viewing it from the male's perspective was off-putting.
Anyone else have this experience with pornographic images?
I've not had that particular kind of experience with "pornographic images", but I think I can understand the sensations described here. The use of startling or unusual angles is a basic technique, not only in photography but in all the representational arts. When it's done well, sometimes even when done crudely, it does shock us by making the familiar suddenly seem strange to our eyes. Of course, that's part of the reason for using the technique.
Generally speaking, I don't mind the mere depiction of genitalia erotic. Most of the time, it seems to me that such photographs would belong more in an anatomy text than they belong as erotica. Images that provide some kind of context, some implicit narrative have much more of an erotic character, at least to my sensibilities.
