I recently recieved a PM on this site from a woman interested in contacting me.

I was immediatly skeptcial simply because my profile is pretty barebones and don't know why any woman would wish to contact me whom I hadn't contacted first.  Plus I know that women typcially get 100 emails to every 1 that a guy gets, so I was pretty suprised to get any (at least out of the blue like that)

But I figured what the heck, might as well respond to see what she wants.   So more or less I responded by saying "ok.. you got my curiosity, so what's up?".

Didn't recieve anything back for a few days, so figured she might have pm'd me by mistake.  But finallly did get a response.   It only took me the first couple of sentences to realize that this is some flavor of the nigerian scam.   Yada, yada, yada.. girl in trouble.. has a large fortune.. wants to get it over to the US.. want's my help.. yada yada.

Of course if I respond.. the next step is going to be some long winded excuse as to why I need to wire/mail them some money.

My first response was to simply respond and tell "them" to FUCK OFF.

However... the more I thought about it.. the more I thought that this might be an opportunity to fuck with THEM a little bit.

They attached a photo, which of course is just some random pic they stole from a website somewhere.   So my second thought was to respond and ask them that I need a little more proof that "she" is really who "she" says she is.  And maybe ask for a naked photo of herself sitting on a saw horse, wearing a raincoat and a viking helmet holding a frying pan in one hand and a sign that says "Maugseros ROCKS!" in the other. :) lol   And that if she can produce such a photo of herself, that I know she is who she says she is and that I would be willing to help. :) Lol

Of course they won't be able to produce such a photo.. so it would just be to see if they go away or what type of excuses they come up with.

OR.. my third thought is to just play along with them and see how far I can take it... up till when they need me to send them money for some bogus reason, at which point I would first insist that they send ME money first... maybe $500-$1000 bucks or so..   I wouldn't give them any of my personal information of course.. I would ask them to send it to me in US cash via post office box..   but just to see if I'm able to scam the scammers. :)

Does anyone else have any ideas?

:) lol

Google "scambaiting", since that is what you are trying to do. There are whole communities that are into this, and boards where you will find tips.

As much as the desire to screw with them is enticing, you will never receive any real money so what is the point?

I dunno what you're doing "wrong", but I get two or three scam letters a week.  I report, block, and delete, and move on.

Shoot! - what am I doing wrong. I've only had 2 scam contacts in 15 months on this site. They were both in the last 2 months though, so maybe I'm doing something right after all......

I do like the viking helmet and frying pan part, though,  it fires the imagination.

I'm sure it does... I was mainly refering to the fact that my profile is pretty barebones at this time and doesn't have a lot of info in it.

Sounds complicated. I'll make it much easier for you.

Send me 500 bucks and I'll handle the whole thing.

I've read that the people behind these Nigerian scams can be quite heavy.  You have to be careful not to give away any details that can make it possible for them  - or friends of theirs living nearer to home - to find you.

While I understand how annoying the scammers can be I don't see how the OP is much different.

This is true, but if I was straight and into dragons, I might pm you to find out more.
