UK Channel 4 tonight screened a brilliant documentary in its “Cutting Edge” series, entitled “Confessions Of A Traffic Warden”.

Yes, on the surface it was about traffic wardens, (or civil penalty enforcement officers, if you prefer), but actually it was about something far more interesting.

It featured the parking enforcement office at Westminster, London – where the entirety of the traffic wardens are recent immigrants, drawn from all over the world to the UK.

The something far more interesting that came out was the way these people were so quickly disabused of their notions of Britannia as a civilised place with civilised people – and the spotlight it shone on the actual nature of the UK today, for despite perhaps the rose tinted view these new arrivals had, their perspective as outsiders looking in was so damned clear, so frightening – and yet hardly any surprise for those of us raised here.

“People here have no honour, no dignity”
“They will do anything for money”
“This doesn’t happen in Africa, I can tell you”
“If the British lose their culture, (through the behaviour observed), then I am sure the society will fail”

I would say their comments summed it up quite neatly – indeed, there are no values in British society, only the finding of the most effective means to make personal gain at someone else’s expense, as necessary blatantly disregarding any rule of law and measure of courtesy, providing no apology whatever for such conduct but rather throwing insults and threatening violence if that manner of conduct be queried, and as a result the society is breaking down into a lawless interaction of individuals.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are that the experience of a traffic warden isn't going to give a good view on the general populace.
They are taking the tits who park in front of drives etc, and then really pissing them off.

Yes.

What other outcome could anyone expect out of a capitalistic structure?

I have found UK society to be a whole lot better than previously thought, by avoiding reading newspapers, and viewing certain material on the tv. Material like these fly on the wall looks at British life and living, documentaries about feral kids, sink estates, crimes etc. I have found by dipping out of all that stuff, I don't expect it, and so treat people as I would like to be treated myself. Yeah, so I may live in a quiet part of the country, but we have our fair share of yobbos, just like any other suburb, but what the yobbos are up to, well, it's not hurting me or any other, so I leave them alone, it is none of my business, live and let live, with the thought I was young once, and got up to all sorts, who am I to condemn the youth now.

Immigrants, I treat them the same as any other person, with the respect a person is due, and I have found by being friendly with the immigrants, they are all too keen to be friendly back, they are not what a newspaper stirs up scare about, when reporting on but one bad egg.

I think perhaps, we are exposed to too much negative media, and that media is influencing our mood and behaviour.
