I admit i totally dropped the ball by promising him we would dye Easter eggs tonight. The kid has severe allergies to dyes and his idiot mother should have thought of this. I am sure...somewhere...there are dyes made for kids like him, and if i was not such an idiot i would have found the stupid things.

I admit i now have to tell the kid he can dye the eggs, just not eat them...and he loves hard boiled eggs.

I admit the only thing i can think of is to keep a few undyed eggs in the fridge and pull a switch when he wants one.

What about the decorative plastic that you stick the hard boiled egg into then dip into hot water & it melts against the egg. Very decorative, alot less messy & VERY SIMPLE to do.

good thought, but i read the ingredients and the colors are from the same dyes he is allergic to. Mainly Red Dye #40.

The shells are so porous that any dye is going to permeate and affect the egg.

Markers are something i never thought of, and just might work. The problem is they dyed eggs at school and the lil poop might insist on doing the same at home.

I am wondering about "coloring" the egg first with candle wax, then boiling with different colors of felt. I recall doing something like this in Girl Scouts.

yep. I know when my late husband was protein deficient i would add chopped egg whites to everything! Luckily they were tasteless and he never knew i was doing it.
