Matmid writes, so it seems that there is an individual processing of observable behaviors which when individually assessed  defines the earning or not earning of respect.

I would call that admiration, not respect, and I don't care who says differently; they are not the same.

Makes perfect sense within the community as flogging a co-worker just might get me fired.

There ya go! I don't know if my original answer was in the spirit of the question you asked, but I think it is a key variant in such a discussion. Your coworker, to the best of your knowledge, does not need, want, or secretly desire to be flogged. A submissive person may very well reap great personal benefits (possibly even health benefits) from the same action. You show respect for your coworker by NOT flogging him or her. You show a masochistic submissive you respect him or her by doing exactly what would be considered disrespectful according to that coworker. I definitely recommend NOT flogging your coworker to test the theory though. LOL

It means whatever the person you're trying to show it to thinks it is.

To me, respect means the same thing regardless of context. Some people in the BDSM community seem to think that those who declare themselves to be dominant are thereby endowed with the inalienable right to deference from everyone else. It's complete bulls**t.

This question was bought up at a Munch.  What does "Respect" really mean within a bdsm context?  We think we know know what is it, but do we or does it change within contexts.
What is your question and what do ''we'' think and who are ''we''?

What you are saying is you don't know what respect means within a bdsm context!

Respect means observing certain limits, there's certain lines you don't cross, there's certain things you don't do.

Keep doing this for long enough and people will trust you to keep on doing the same, that's called earning respect.

This concept applies to all and any contexts.

Does MasterMatmid understand his own question? And do you understand the question? If you do, how would you put it so it is more clear? Now it reads something like ''what does a Dutch bottom really mean within a bdsm context and do we know when we think we know and does it change within contexts?''

Could it be you evidently don't understand my initial reply?

I think the OP's question is quite clear, and doesn't need rephrasing. Your response was quite odd.

Well yes... if you came up and just randomly flogged them. But if you both agreed to it and met at a private place, not your workplace, then it's highly unlikely to. Just like if you just randomly came up and flogged a person at a play party is likely to get you punched and thrown out (assuming there are no free for all rules that everyone agreed to). Talk about it and agree to it, however, and it's a different story.

Pretty much the same.

It is odd that you don't anwer the OP's question you understand but instead question my wit you do not understand.

The OP mentions a question that was purchased for money or goods at a munch, for Pete's sake! And you find my response odd? The OP continues with that we know what is it , but do we or does it change within contexts.

Depends on your dynamic... for some, a LACK of any respect whatsoever, and to be completely objectified as little more than property is what is sought;  for others it's more like any 'nilla relationship.  Just depends.

Any person i don't know anything about i feel i have to treat with a level of respect in the initial contact.
In the real world it means that the way they interact with me in all things they do or not do. The way they look, treat others including their possesions and animals. All that will increase or decrease my respect for them.
In this forum it really means that what they say in their profiles or many times not say in them. The postings they make and finally the way they handle contacts in, is what creates the respect.
Remember that respect is a fragile thing. If i loose respect for somebody it is very hard to regain it. It is many times harder to rebuild it, than building it in the first place.
Being really a atheist i still quote the bible. I beleive the most important sentence in that long book goes something like this.
Treat all other as you would like to be treated yourself. If you think like that, it really isn't all that hard.

I hate to bring up the old cliche, but it holds true. As someone previously said..put whatever you want in front of your name..respect is earned not automatically given. How does one earn respect...by actual listening...by being consistent, making good decisions, doing the right thing,...among other things.  As there is a Webster definition for the term, just like everything else it will be interpreted differently by everyone for their own use.
