Well you had to ask. I have a buddy who is a mason. He also plays piano. One night he and his boss are at a restaurant having dinner and there was a piano there. He went over there and started playing it, and in the beginning his boss is thinking OMG my name is mud, there is no such a thing as a piano playing bricklayer.

Did I mention he is pretty good ? The boss changed his tune very quickly. My buddy has like this "set" he does, pretty much made up, but with components of other music. Actually it sounds pretty damn good. After the set he looks up at the customary wine snifter on top of the piano and found about $200 there. People were asking him to stick around and play more, even stating outright that they would throw more money in there !

The owner of the restaurant also came out and informed him that everything was on the house that night. So he has this relatively good job, but just made more in about an hour than he did all day at work. I can only imagine the discussion that ensued afterward, because this guy is a ballbuster if I even seen one. He probably quit and everything, but jokingly.

However I am not entirely sure that's what the question was about. Considering the source I might have misread it and it means more like "What can you do for money ?". I have given this some thought in recent years. What would I do if forced out of my current profession ? First of all I can pretty much build a house, and if I really had to I think I could build a car. Aircraft are beyond me. I can fix just about anything. However, the question was about singing for supper, so while I know all of these skills aren't worth shit if nobody has any money, if they got food and I am hungry what would I do ?

Good question.

This has been interesting.   The replies here are- well- on the silver board the replies are more survivalist in context.

A poster there has gone wild with getting us to brain storm.   I dont think anyone could pull me off a computer long enough to do alot of that grunt work.

I guess I am slothful.

You don't want to hear me sing.
But you do want me to cook the supper.
I'm a good plain cook and a superb baker.

I can sing- I sing a mean torch song while lying on top of a piano in a skimpy dress.

I've often been called upon be a life coach/couples therapist.

I have worked as a massage therapist.

I can adjust the hell out of a spine.

I can deliver babies in a pinch.

And those are just the ones that aren't illegal, immoral or fattening. (You'll have to ask Master if you want a more detailed list of my talents....)

Help with setting up and settling of personal estates
Fixing and repairing computer hardware and software
Housecleaning
Cooking
Clerical/secretarial duties
Basic home repairs
....just off the top of my head. I can probably come up with others if I really put my mind to it. I can learn many things pretty quickly.

Yes I can and have, sung for my dinner. My own songs, and others'. Guitar and piano.

I can teach... Fly a plane, run, write, swim, I can guard and save lives, perform medical exams and procedures, life coach... I can get my supper the really old fashioned way, by hunting.... I can plant, grow and harvest crops... Or just flowers... I can act, recite poetry or do standup... I can teach, inspire, lead and grow men, women and children of all ages... I can cook, clean, and do basic woodwork or welding, soldering, a few basic car repairs, etc... I can paint, draw, sculpt, give a killer full-body massage....

I'm bored with this list. What was the question, again?

I can and have and will again I am sure. As for other things, I tutor, babysit, mediate, plan events and getaways. I can cook quite well. I will exchange that for the food itself and clean up responsibilities. I have been known to just simply take dares for simple things I want or need. I have made a silly face for a piece of gum or flashed a trucker for directions and everything inbetween and perhaps... maybe... beyond. It's not hard to get something for a price worth far more than money.

I would love to be able to sing for my supper. I would be more successful at painting your portrait though. Popeye, I agree it would be good to see a link of Aileen singing before a ball game for sure!

I could sing for my supper but I'd be eating better if I played my guitar for supper. Did that for many years.

Why exclude prostitution? It's a business transaction. The biggest problem with the monetary system is when we tell people how they can spend it.

Night is when they come,
Don't know where they're from,
With the tower watching,
And the utmost caution,
You're still not safe at night.

They eat you as you live,
As you work and dream and give,
No matter what you do,
They will always come to you,
Every night they come to you.

Dreams can be your friend,
Might just never end,
But the answer inside,
If you can confide,
Is the answer in the end.

This is the rewrite to my song - The Answer In The End. It is done in E, because that is the only where I can sing it. It has the very special E, which IIRC is 0-12-11-12-13-0 and then a regualr three string E right after. Then it goes into a special G and A possibly never done before and then back. The old D.C. Al Fine.

So I could do that and then my Dance Of The Spider which is totally instrumental. So that's not really singing.

Let's face it, I would starve.

ok I was thinking entertainment skills when the OP wrote "sing for your supper." If you want to go the survivalist route:

I can darn a sock. Meaning I can repair a rip in  knit with a needle and some thread similar to the thread used in the original knit. I can knit or crochet a sweater or blankets. I can replace a button. I can make a pair of pants with a zipper fly.

of to bed.

Instead of singing (stopped that one 20 years ago) I could threaten your ears with my accordeon, piano, saxophone, clarinet and guitar skills - but don't blame me for not having practised the last ten years, though  On top of it I could get rid of all the mice in in your kitchen or stock as my cats are very good indeed to catch them, my girls might even get rid of your spiders

Any skill which can score a meal- is of interest here.  I was wanting to get people thinking of the less obvious ways we can trade.

I love the "can do" attitude here.  :-)

I can't sing, like period. The loudest that I'm willing to go is humming. I'm also artistically challenged in general so I'd go more towards practical.

I would probably be a dog walker, I love them enough that it would be fun.

Maybe be an amateur psychologist, my minor is in it and I love hearing about people's problems.

Last one would be a masseuse. But I don't really like touch people that I don't really know so that one would be a last resort.
