NOV 1st..is the feast of SAMHAIN..summer's end..and the CELTIC new year..
(**parts of it have been absorbed/adapted into Chritianity..Wicca and more)
The Celts honored the balance of intertwining forces of existence..dark andl ight..night and day..celebrating Beltaine May 1 as light and Samhain as dark/
This time was a time of dark silence leading to whisperings of the new..seeds strirring below ground..thoughts for future.

Long ago villagers gathered in the best of the harvest for this feast on the eve before the new year..( OCt 31)

BONES  from the eaten animals were thrown onto fires as a tribute ot the animals and thus the term bonfire or bonefire

Personal prayers in the form of objects offered up in thanks were thrown on the fire as well.
As the bonfire roared all other fires in the homes were put out and later all lit from the one fire in the centre of the village...thus kindling new dreams..projects and hopes.

It is said the viel between worlds is at its thinnnest on teh eve of NOV.1..so hospitality involving ancestors was central.
FOOD was put otut for the dead or silent suppers held with a plate for them
Windows..doors and gates were left unlocked for free passage of spirits
Jack- o- lanterns were to scare away pesky spirits..

Young people put on old clothes and disguises and pretended to be spirits brought from the dead.
Many Celtic customs were compatible with church-ianity and SAMHAIN was changed to ALL SAINTS DAY to honor the dead.

Christian and pagan beliefs intertwine in a gallimaufry of celebrations from OCT 31 to NOV 5 all of which appear to both challenge the ascendency of dark and revel in it.

CHANT:
a year of beauty...a year of plenty... a year of planting a year of harvest
A year of forests... a year of healing.... a year of.vision ...a year of passion

blessings from GM
who does not have a hook nose..warts..or cackle..
 too much

* more tomorrow

Blessed Be GYPSYMAMBO on this Samhain.

And for some of us who walk the path between light and dark...it is a time of great power.

If I were you I'd call the local council and get them to fix the street lighting.

Unless you prefer nailing their hands and feet to a post

I prefer not to burn witches and nailing them to posts is a little sadistic for me. Can't we just have an orgy under the moon and call it even?

Anyone care to know what the Odinists say ? Check it out, I will not post it here. Odinists have been labelled a racist group by God, aka Abe Foxman.

Yes I am fucking pissed, but I will get over it, and real quick, quicker than you think.

It's a little late, but I was out all night so here you go:

Happy Samhain to all those who accept it, may the coming year be one full of laughter and joy with enough tears to help you appreciate the best parts.

The best Samhain for me for five years, and in a lot of ways, an exorcism of the past, for I was somewhere and doing something I never would have had thought of doing  three, four, five, six, seven etc years ago that very night, and to the minute. I even remember looking at my watch, to check the time, and noticed it was the exact time as it was five years ago. I used to dread Samhain because of what happened, but this one, it all has all changed and I can see positvity for the future. This past year has been an enlightening one, I feel at last I am understanding.

Even the cold and wet stranded in amongst drunks in a post club kicking out time Newton Abbott was positively educating, for though I was aware, very aware, I saw the truth of the situation, something I had feared greatly these past five years.
