i'm familiar with it and it has nothing to do with bdsm, but is one of the paths found in african traditional religions. what prompted your question?

Oh, it is a made up thing (there is no real grounding in it as there isn't in its obverse) where blacks are the master race and whites are the slavic race, a reverse arayan thingie.......it is easily googleable.

it is an initiatory path. the google information is not correct. if your friend is truly a practitioner and you've met this person face to face you'd know. he'll have specific things on his person that identify that he has been initiated or is presently being trained. out of all the paths that fall under that heading, obeah is definitely the most secretive. but you can get a sense of what's involved to some degree by looking at the others, particularly palo. while information has been made available about santeria and some of the other paths to a small measure, obeah adherents have generally maintained their silence.

There are actually three versions of Obeah.......

#1 - a term used in the West Indies to refer to folk magic, sorcery, and religious practices derived from Central African and West African origins.

#2 - a bdsm related black supremacy group that does not allow black submissives or white dominants, was formed as early as the late 60's and is still active today.

#3 - a fictional "place" Obeah, is a special vaction spot, in Africa, in a distant future, where all white males are cuckolds, to their of course towering blonde wives, who then pay great deals of money to fly to Obeah, and be serviced by the panting, giant penis'ed black men, who are also served by their husbands, but only after they have been transformed in to perfectly pretty blonde females as well, bla bla bla... main focus is actually the white men being turned into females and their sex with the black men, kind of like a homosexual black white gor thing.

Didn't Rush Limbaugh talk about this recently?

UmbraDomina -> RE: Obeah Principes (10/28/2009 11:18:26 AM)

LOL ... not sure, but I will have to start listening to Rush again if so... I know there is alot of fictional erotica written about it, almost 100% about white men being transformed in to always blonde busty females serving giant penis'ed black men, it was a topic on a female dominants board I belong to on another site, a few months ago.

I am old enough to recall before the Internet there was a BDSM magazine with that title devoted to Black dominance/white submission.

A search of the other side of CollarMe reveals thirteen Profiles using OBEAH in their titles. They include one dom cpl, one dom female, one dom male, and ten submissive men. You might wish to ask them.

afterforever -> RE: Obeah Principes (10/28/2009 2:42:45 PM)

So confused by this. Obeah was what my Ghanaian grandma referenced when she decided that some misforture was due to spirits or curses.

But whatever, you learn something new and all that.

Moonhead -> RE: Obeah Principes (10/28/2009 2:46:46 PM)

I think it's originally a religious term (it's used a lot in voodoo and santeria, and I think it turns up in palo mayombe as well), that's been co-opted for a very specific BDSM fantasy. There's a lot of that sort of retooling about, after all: slavery wasn't something people found exciting a century back...

Moonhead -> RE: Obeah Principes (10/28/2009 2:48:06 PM)

I think it's a spell in that context. What all of the business with pots, dolls and veves is supposed to achieve.

that's my association of the term as well. but i've rarely seen anyone speak openly about it on the internet. the community is very closed.

*chuckles* Bad news for you there porcelaine. It seems to me that there's a fairly strong mystical element among the BDSM'ers. I see no reason why any particular brand of mysticism ought to be excluded. It's kind of like south park I think... nobody gets out unscathed.

[:D]
They're using the term, but I don't think the mysticism is mixed in with this particular take on black power. (Maybe as this seems to be a black thing, that would strike the people who are into it as patronising?)

IronBear -> RE: Obeah Principes (10/28/2009 4:38:47 PM)

Amongst my many and varied friends and associates, I've hear Obeah referred to in a similar context as Santera and other practices loosely grouped as Voodoo or Voudun from the West Indies and specifically Haiti. I'm pretty much on the outside looking in here but am treated with respect as much due to my respect for the secrecy of such practices and my own knowledge and practices of Western rites. If Neets and I decide to leave Aussie, one of the options we are seriously looking at is moving to the BVI (British Virgin Islands) if so I will definitely be looking at learning all I can about such religions and practices.
