Please allow me another vent, it's been a few months, so I'm due. [:(]

Darn it, can't a girl just take her guy out for a night of line dancing fun at the good ole machanical bull riding saloon down the road without having to think about getting strung up by a rope. Yeah, I'm one of those rose colored wearing black folks, rarely take them off, though I know the deal of life's realities. Usually, I live my life the way I want, when I want where I want, inspite of knowing the facts. I've never let race be a deciding factor in any of my choices about how I conduct my life, to me that would be like wearing a noose.

I'm sure I've said it all before, but its slapped me in the face recently. Since moving to Florida, again, (I lived here once before), I've had to face the realities that there are areas where my lovely friend, that I btw met here some time ago via CM and I have to watch where we go as we might end up in a serious bar fight, and I mean serious. And frankly, I'm just not in the mood for that bullchit. I have no desire to mess up my manicure, clothing, hair or good looks. or ever spend a moment enclosed behind jail doors. Yep, still have a sense of humor about it. I've weathered worse things in life, so not going to let this beat me, but it sure does suck having to be constantly reminded of the ignorance of some closed minded individuals.

I wasn't really thinking about race when I was planning our next night time outing, but when I mentioned the line dancing and country venues to several friends that are long time residents, they warned me that certain areas were to be avoided if my sweetie and I wanted to get home with our body parts in tact. Yikes! [:o]

Can I live without going line dancing, you betcha, but my boy has gone to all the clubs and places that I enjoy, why not go to some of the places that would most light up his eyes. Maybe I'll just have to look for more rock-n-roll spots, he'll love that even more. I'm getting a headache trying to find if I can step two paces forward or three paces backwards to avoid getting a brokebackheadlockjawnucklesancwhich.

As they say in Floriday you have to go north to get to south. Ever thought of moving further down south Florida away from RedNecks?
Or give it a couple of more centuries of people traveling and fucking alot to the point or race not being important because no one would be able to tell the difference or keep track of it :)

I am afraid as long as man exists with the innate ability to make decisions, have opinions and herd as he sees fit----intolerance will exist--it is up to those of us that feel differently to keep the pebbles going in the pond as they say---

Keep dancing!

Having owned a black slave before that moved to Dallas from New York.......

I asked her, why in the hell would you do that?

Her reply, 'Well, it is easier to deal with the racism when they are right up front about it, then at least, you know where you stand.'

Sad Sad Sad commentary in life, indeed.

Go get 'em anyway, tiger!!!!

Additionally, it is sometimes overblown....

Having walked into places full of people of color, with a black woman, and being the only white one in the place, many people ask me in horrified manner, aren't you scared...

My reply is usually along the lines of If I do that, most of those people think that I must know what I am doing..........

By the by, I have only had limited encounters with racism in those places (flowing the other way) but it never really had that "kill" behind it..........talk with 'em
a little and they give it up...........

Sincerely,
Ron

This may or may not indicate a relationship to this topic. i think it does though. This morning i was talking with a man i hardly know. He was pouring his heart out to me. Why? Because i was willing to listen. My point is people of all races, colors, religions are carrying around tremendous pain within them. When this pain is not handled it comes out in very ugly ways - i.e. racism for one.

It's easy to lash back at those who behave angrily, but - believe it or not, my training as a submissive has helped me learn to look deeper within myself for my love, compassion and care and to move in the opposite direction from what this crazy, hostile society has conditioned me to move. But it's not out of great virtue that i'm able to do this; but out of greater self-acceptance. In accepting who i am and relinquishing my judgment of me, i have learned to give the same to others.

i wish everyone was blessed with this gift - then racism, prejudice, hatred etc. would disappear. But til then we do contend with those too unfortunate to know any better.

....Thank you all for all for understanding and allowing me to vent.

I'm comfortable around all cultures, just being the new kid on the block makes me nervous at times. Rosa

I agree, lashing out serves little purpose and I don't think I'm doing such, I'm just venting. I understand where ignorance stems from. Its ok to understand the motivation, but its not ok to sit idling accepting the outcome of the actions of the motivations if they directly should cause harm to another. Rosa

Yes we contend, and hopefully we speak out against hatred and ignorance, we do not stay silent. Silence only perpetuates and condones. And I don't mean one necessarily has to go shouting it out at every moment of the day, I just mean in the way we live our lives and by not letting little oppourtinities slide to teach. Personally, I have some love for all people and no matter what one person does to me and I believe I always will. I'm not angry at a person, a race, I'm annoyed at a behavior, a mindset, ignorance. It saddens me more than it causes me any other emotion, I feel pity, not hate towards those idividuals that would judge another on the basis of a surface.

Yes I get angry first, but it always just turns to pity, possibly empathy for the person that caused me to have the feeling, I'm not capable of holding onto anger for very long, its a self destructive emotion, it only eats up the insides of the person holding onto it. I'd rather have a bit O
