NeedToUseYou -> RE: Man vs. AOL (10/22/2009 9:08:14 PM)

I've went through that like 5 years ago.

It was virtually the same, except they wouldn't have been able to play the conversation on TV.

As in Cancel the fucking account. I'm not going to keep it, if you paid me I would not want your shit assed fucking service. So, please cancel my account, if you don't cancel my account, I will call back every fucking day, and yell at you until you do, This is a 800 number, I will cost you and shit eating AOL Time Warner (Owners of CNN, TIME, AOL, etc...), more than you'd make from the 19.95 you are collecting.  So, just cancel the service, now...

I hate AOL. Worst company ever, even worse than Charter(current internet provider), which sucks to. I won't buy Time magazine, because of it, if CNN wasn't sloshed in every cable package I'd never use that either, seeing they are the same company or at least were, which is enough for me to forever hate that megacorp.

I've gone through the exact same shit with AOL. This is not an isolated incident - it is obviously policy. The worst part was that after a half hour of that shit, when they finaly said they would cancel the account - THEY DIDN'T! I continued to get billed and had to call my credit card company and put a stop payment on the account.

Beats me why anyone who has high speed still pays for AOL.  I kept my AOL and have used it for 3 yrs now without paying and without having to go through a cancel process.  I only log on for mail since my business mail account began there and I am not planning to change it.  My customers are adverse to change.

pahunkboy -> RE: Man vs. AOL (10/23/2009 7:24:42 AM)

that pretty much is the trend.

I have heard of this...

early versions of AOL software made it so they were the only ISP.   it was wrote into the program- so even you tried to switch it would not work.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Man vs. AOL (10/23/2009 3:03:13 PM)

Same exact thing here. I had to have the Visa Check card revoked and reissued to that they would stop the billing. I still have the email account, because it is the oldest email I have and many people have that email address. I started back in the days they billed hourly, and you could use those trial cd's to get free time. Anyway, if I try to log in via their webmail address it still tries to "verify" who I am by asking for billing ino. Instead I installed AIM, just so I could use the short cut to email, and get around that BS.

I had AOL when my ums were little because they had a great parental limits program. When i called to cancel it, i was paying $20 something a month - and the guy on the other end of the phone had the nerve to offer me a $10.00 a month rate. I was pissed!!!!!!!!!!! If there was that rate, then i should have been able to get that before i tried to leave. Bastards

Missokyst -> RE: Man vs. AOL (10/23/2009 6:05:43 PM)

keyword BILLING

Price plan - change my price plan

Anyone for the last 5 yrs (at least) could have changed to a lower rate or gone free with a broadband connection.

They don't give you notice.. lol although they did for at least one month during the Time Warner transition.  I have seen some people who still pay 24.95 a month.  I found out how to change my billing long ago and passed the word along to my friends.  There are somethings that you have to seek out for yourself, but most people don't bother looking.

It is still my most reliable email addy.  I never have issues logging in either from their software or my browser.

DesFIP -> RE: Man vs. AOL (10/25/2009 9:41:48 AM)

You can't cancel through the phone or the online. Doesn't work. I found a fax number, faxed them instructions to cancel the account, then called my credit card company and told them I had just done this, and the cc company put a hold on it forever. The cc companies have a lot of experience with this, as long as you give them the date that you gave cancellation instructions, they won't pay it any more.

Ahhh Yes, 159.00 for a year of service, such as it was. I simply said I no longer had a computer, not much they can say to that.
