...I mean the commercials on the main pages of AOL or Yahoo, my two main e-mail account domains. I'm told that Comcast and others do it too.

It seems to take forever for these commercials to load, slowing down my system to a crawl, and every once in a while, locking it up completely.

It doesn't matter whether I use FireFox or IE, or whether at my home or office. And yes, I use pop-up blocker.

I'm thinking that there's got to be a better way. I'm even willing to drop my ISP, and go with another that won't throw these commercials at me. Or even pay for my own domain that includes e-mail accounts.

I figure that an upgraded system might handle these now slow-to-load commercials, but I'd hate to upgrade just for this reason. I mean WTF... we all know that these commercials will only become more elaborate as our systems collectively upgrade over time.

I've already canceled cable TV, partially because I think it's insane to PAY these corporate bloodsuckers to watch 20 minutes of their commercials for every 40 minutes of programming. But I'm not quite ready to give up the internet just yet.

Anyone have any good ideas?

Why don't you just get a g-mail account. They just have a strip of text ads to the right, I barely even see anymore(ad blindness).

I pretty much don't use my ISP email.   The bill auto forwards.   Frankly they made is very confusing to find the right buttons.

If I am elsewhere I can still see my stuff.

gmail seems ok.

This is good to know. I'll set up my social accounts there.

Maybe I should get my own domain for my business e-mail address. I've had my current address for 12 years. I hate the thought of changing it, and I certainly wouldn't want to change it again if and when g-mail adds commercials in the future... which seems more likely than not.

They let you route your .com e-mail through them. As In if you own subfever.com you can have gmail handle the e-mail for it. As in you can setup [email protected]. It just forwards you to a g-mail login for your domain. So, if they do ever go shitty, then you just have to change who is handling your e-mail, and can keep the name intact.

http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/group/index.html

You have to have access to change your domain records, though they have a tutorial on how to do it, it's mostly just cut and pasting in the information they give you, in the proper fields.

I believe the "free" version limits you to like 25 g-mail addresses for your domain. I've been using it for over a year for my domains.
