Hi folks--

The science section of the NYTimes has an article about what happened to a woman who was pregnant and contracted H1N1 flu.  She lost her baby, was in a coma for a month, and almost died several times.

The article's here: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/20/health/20pregnant.html?ref=science

Pregnant women are most likely to be hammered by H1N1; vaccination's strongly recommended for them.

BULL SHIT!

If they ever release any vaccine. That poor woman.

I want both my kids to get it, the schools are warning about closings being likely. But I had my daughter at the doctor last week, and the doctor has no idea of when she'll be able to get her hands on a dose. She can't even get the regular flu serum, there just isn't enough.

They closed all the area schools within a 30 minute drive here for three days this week. After that three days they are sending out automated calls to see if kids are okay to come back or additional school closings will be required.

Here the vaccine is expected to start in the second week in November with the high risk groups first, pregnant and nursing moms, health care workers, babies under...damn...i don't remember...either 6 or 24 months, and those with chronic illnesses.

My niece and nephew had H1N1 a couple of weeks ago and it was no different for them than any other flu. The doctor simply told their mother to watch for a few signs that it was getting worse and sent them home to recover.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a large scale immunization being possible.

i know of a few that had it also, and it was just like the regular flu. I think it is the high risk groups that are the biggest concern.

Yup..it isn't that dangerous for people unless they have underlying diseases or are pregnant.
They have started vaccinating the hospital staff here...the only bad thing is that unlike other injections the arm which is injected is hurting like hell n just generally fucked up the first week or so..[8D]
People allergic to eggs should be vary that they'll most likely get sick (veeeery sick.. should just keep their head in the toilet for the next 24hrs) because the vaccine is made with eggs..but it's just for about 24hrs or so then they're fine so that's not really a reason not to get vaccinated.[;)]

The high schooler I can pick up assignments for. But a college kid who misses two weeks of her major assignments will be inundated trying to recover when they return. If my daughter gets sick, I have to take her out of school. Plus closing a university for two to three weeks doesn't change the end date, it means they simply have that much less time to cover all the work.

I had whatever flu is going around.

While it is not pleasant- it also is not the terrible thing they make it out to be.

One will sleep.

Sunlight and   vit D, vit C is thought to guard against flu.

Toward the end of the flu I ate eggs, and drank milk- which is usually the wrong things to eat- but somehow it was good for this.

Plenty of clean clothes- and bed clothes  are suggested.  You wont need food.  Lemon ade ice cubes would be ideal for this.

The more I learn on vaccines in general the more forceful my "no" becomes....

Well PA, you can always run around kissing every sick person you can find instead!

The reality is that we have created these super bugs by our fanaticism with all things anti bacterial and running off to the doctor for every little thing, demanding antibiotics to treat things that they never should have been prescribed for.

pahunkboy -> RE: Pregnant women and H1N1 (10/20/2009 8:24:52 AM)

It is true that antibiotics are over used.

If a person is sick then by all means don't go around others....!!!  Had I needed an errand done while sick there are a few people I could have called to leave groceries outside my door.  When sick the last thing I wanted to do was being around people.

LaTigresse -> RE: Pregnant women and H1N1 (10/20/2009 8:25:51 AM)

If I do not feel well, I try to hibernate.

pahunkboy -> RE: Pregnant women and H1N1 (10/20/2009 8:29:40 AM)

Some of this is on the schools.  I seen they auto generate unauthorized absence letters to the parents.

So this type of places should bend more with the outbreak... as to how many and under what circumstances it is ok to be absent.

It seems to go in cycles-  be here alive or dead-   vs dont you dare come in even if you have a cold.

BULL SHIT!

Hunk, you've long since shown that you're living in a world defined by paranoia and conspiracy.  Your news sources consistently echo bogus information, which could be disproven with independent research.
