Of course, it only applies to the segment of the female population that uses chemical contraceptives, for the decade or two that they typically use them -- at most . . .. . .

& said segment is far smaller than that article might make plain . . . . While the pill is popular, I'm pretty sure that even today it's a minority (ie, less than 50%) of reproductive-age women that are 'taking the pill'* . . ..

&, let's see, lots of women only take the pill briefly, for a few months or a coupla years. It's a method, like most, that is only suited to some . . . . .

But, it's causing hormonal changes in enough women to change our evolutionary path . .. . Or more so than, oh, say, massive social changes are likely influencing our behaviors . . . . . Uh huh . .. . . That news source likes to showcase some of the most fun ideas . . . . . .

*mockingly* . . . . Fear birth control, fear it. & not for sensible reasons like heightened risk of phlebitis, no fear it cuz it might morph us in the future, make us all a bunch of woosies . . .. . Birth control pills are taking away our manliness . . . . . *cue invading aliens or time travelers*

Haven't we done this before?

ETA: * 'taking the pill' inclusive of Depo Provera, implants, & etc . .. .

As it said at the bottom of the article " The rise of such stars could also be explained by cynical attempts to market films and merchandise at an ever younger age group."
Which I think is more than likely, during the 70s and80s the world opened up to different people different places different styles altogether.TV Movies, became a staple, , then with the dawn of the interwebs, it all went to hell so to speak.
Rudolph valentino was a pretty face and he was REAAALLY popular in the 20s.

Saying this might be is a far cry from proving it. However, the age of females spending time at the movies, and money on items is also relevant. There have always been boyish types for the younger females. David Partridge, the Monkees, all of those were teen idols.

The study doesn't show the age of the females.

Yes, but even those tended to have larger jawlines and more "masculine" features than what we're seeing now. Ever since the late 70's, Hollywood has been trying to sell an image of refined androgyny.

Although... the thought of unloading a batch of progesterone and oestrogen combos inside Gor's water supply makes me rejoice, in a strangely sadistic way.

Huh... maybe I'm the odd girl out but I've been on chemical BC since I was 18 and I've still got the hots for very masculine guys. I tend to get as far away from androgeny as possible actually in both sexes.

Thing is, the Pill's been blamed for everything. The Mail latches on every little report that questions the Pill's safety in order to try and persuade its (mostly female) readership to give up everything that makes their lives better.

I'm not sure why they do it, nor do I know why women even buy the paper, but it's one of the best selling rags (haha!!!) in the U.K.

Female lawyers hide it under their desks and read it at lunchtime (in complete and utter shame).

Not something I've follow actually though it might be something for me to look into in the future. I've not even heard the paper referenced on my uber-feminist campus. Perhaps it hasn't made it's way over the U.S. yet. Though I have heard that using men's deorderent causes breast cancer - something breast cancer doctors have assured me isn't true.

That's probably because it's one of the saddest, most parochial paper published in the British Isles, AS - the Mail is actually so uninteresting, even those that read it are frightened from quoting from it for fear of appearing so terribly lower middle-class - one of the worse things to be in England. I suppose the paper would be an interesting thing to include in a study on the news-reading habits of the more-than-average British female.

It's a complete scourge, but great fun if one feels like bashing the press :-) .
