If they recognize male female marriages in other states, and thus allow those couples to divorce, they are going to have to allow same sex divorce. And if they really don't want it, then they are going to have to establish similar type ways for nonmarried couples who are civil partners to separate and appropriately divide property. But they better think about it.

Personally I expect that eventually a ban on same sex marriages will be recognized to violate the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which clearly states that you cannot violate civil rights on the basis of age, sex, race, religion. And if a ban on same sex marriage is not using the basis of sex, then I don't know what is.

The funnier thing about the whole gay marriage debate is the grounds on which the religious nuts want it banned. They say that gay marriage goes against God.

Whose God? There are tons of religions out there, each with their own take on weddings and marriage. Ergo, 'marriage' is not simply a christian ordeal.

If Buddists can marry....if Wiccans can marry...if Muslims can marry.....if ATHEISTS can marry.....then marriage is not limited to one religion and thus to ban gay marriage it because "it goes against God's will" is simply religious discrimination. It's saying that YOUR marriage goes against someone ELSE'S religious beliefs, therefore YOU can't do it.

And of course, we all know that to be bullshit.

It is too bad the couple is  divorcing so soon.

...sort of odd that no matter what a gay can be criticized- marry a girl-  NO,  run the single life, NO,  marry- Hell no.....

I think it is worse that some live a fake life and then years later it all comes to a boil....and it is not fair for any of the people involved...

Lev. 18:22, "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination."1

Lev. 20:13, "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them"

1 Cor. 6:9-10, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God."

Rom. 1:26-28, "For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. 28And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper."

Homosexuality is clearly condemned by the Bible. It goes against the created order of God. He created Adam and then made a woman. This is what God has ordained and it is what is right. Unlike other sins, homosexuality has a severe judgment administered by God Himself. This judgment is simple: They are given over to their passions. That means that their hearts are allowed to be hardened by their sins (Romans 1:18ff). As a result, they can no longer see the error of what they are doing. Without an awareness of their sinfulness, there will be no repentance and trusting in Jesus. Without Jesus, they will have no forgiveness. Without forgiveness, there is no salvation.

Marriage is not about the legal document, it is about the comitment between two individuals. The morals and religious issues must be between the individual and their GOD. I do not see gay marriages ever being sanctioned as it is too hot political issue. It appears several states recognize "civil unions" which for all intents and purposes give gay couples the same benefits as one who is considered married. I think a more prudent path to take would be to work towards getting these unoins recognized in all states, then try for "marriage"

The first amendment renders "God"'s opinion of marriage null and void.

Marriage existed before any monotheistic faith. It's a civil right, not a religious one.

Yup yup. I think both the gay marriage debate and the abortion debate are going to be very quickly decided when someone in power with some smarts looks up and asks "On whose religion do we base objections to these two things for 'morality reasons?'

If the objection to abortion is a based on "what the bible says about it" (which is absolutely nothing, so let's not even start that one)....

And if the objection to gay marriage is based on what "God says about it"......

Then neither objection is grounds for making abortion or gay marriage illegal. And therefore, they should both be legal.

...I wonder why ... maybe they married because they could not- then got mad.

to a large extent- I don't need the government to tell me I am ok.     At one time I was uptight over it....
