hlen5 -> Letterman's Extortion (10/2/2009 1:51:57 AM)

Did anyone see Dave's "confession"? Someone tried to extort $2 mil from him for having sex with women who work for him on the show. It's on youtube. Thoughts, anyone?

Brain -> RE: Letterman's Extortion (10/2/2009 2:33:59 AM)

It's all unfortunate and the blackmailer was arrested, Letterman handled it perfectly.

Not the first person to have a work affair but no hint that he forced anyone so he did nothing wrong. Glad they arrested the blackmailer.

sirsholly -> RE: Letterman's Extortion (10/2/2009 4:48:03 AM)

i was impressed with him...he really handled it well

popeye1250 -> RE: Letterman's Extortion (10/2/2009 11:41:54 AM)

I've never cared for Letterman and it's not because I didn't give him a chance, I've *tried* to watch him over the years many times but just can't.
He's "almost funny." He needs to hire some writers.

I never banged him!

I swear!!!

;-)

When is our culture going to get over thinking sex between consenting adults is bad?

Or that anyone else's sex life is our business?

My theory--a whole lot of people aren't getting laid enough, and resent those who are.

He used to be genuinely funny, years ago, but then he turned into a surly prick. There's too much of a nasty, meanspirited edge to his humor now, and it doesn't work well for him.

erintgurltramp -> RE: Letterman's Extortion (10/2/2009 12:26:21 PM)

Sex between consenting adults is OK. Having to consent to sex to keep your job, pressured into having sex to keep your job, or just having to put up with the annoying creep at work that wants you to have sex with them IS NOT..it is illegal!!

Now that all this is out, be prepared for the female employee or two asserting the above.

And so begins the tired road down the overworked tangents.

News before it happens. Is it fun being psychic?

I used to watch him in the 80s when no one heard of him.  He was funny then.

These days I dont watch TV.

Letterman's Blackmail Scandal Boosts Ratings 22%

Also, viewers overall seem to favor the show.

kdsub -> RE: Letterman's Extortion (10/2/2009 1:31:31 PM)

As an employer and supervisor with many years of experience...only idiots have affairs with employees. You wait… there will be more to come out from other employees. Notice he used the plural employees.

It is not ethical as someone’s superior with the power to hire and fire to have affairs with employees. They may feel forced to comply for their job…or they certainly can claim it in a lawsuit.

I had little respect for the man before this incident and even less now. Yes the blackmailer deserves what the law dictates…he is just lucky she was a criminal rather than someone that would take the sexual harassment route.

This makes him far from a hero in my book anyway.

Butch

I went to college with him. He was a braggart and thought he was God's gift to mankind. I never knew anyone who had problems with him sexually, though. I never thought of him as being a sexual person actually...just goes to show. After he graduated from college, he did some local and state television...weather and late night movies. He was pretty funny at that time, but I haven't been able to watch a single one of his shows all the way through. He just makes me tune out!!!!

Fucking the boss so that you'll get preferential treatment is also unethical.

Missokyst -> RE: Letterman's Extortion (10/2/2009 6:00:08 PM)

I fucked a boss or two.  It was never coerced, never something that I didn't want to do, never something that bit me in the butt later.. DURING, perhaps, but that part was fun.

Who doesn't know you can sue the ass off a boss that is harassing you into having sex?  Seems like it would have already come up in courts before if it had, or at least the tabloids.  They probably know how many hemmorhoids he has.

Musicmystery -> RE: Letterman's Extortion (10/2/2009 6:52:06 PM)

Let's see.

Rich, famous, well-connected, power job, sense of humor...

Go figure, but some women like that.

hlen5 -> RE: Letterman's Extortion (10/2/2009 9:18:17 PM)

To my understanding none of the female participants was the blackmailer. It was some male who had the evidence of the affairs. As long as it was consensual and his long time girlfriend (now wife) knew and was OK with it, it's nobody's business.
