The strength of self will and free choice to surrender is proportionate to the degree which one surrenders.

Aldompdx, I don't feel that surrender is a choice per se, though I can choose whether or not to act on it. I can't decide to submit to someone, or to yield/surrender/be enslaved, unless I react to them that way, any more than I can consciously plan to fall in love.

One who merely reacts in life is but an animal acting on instinct; or, is a person who evades personal responsibility for their choices -- including the affirmative choice not to exercise self will and make choices. Mere reactive living permits this: "I didn't choose and consent to that.. You abusively did it to me... You always violate my choice... You never make me happy... I am a perpetual victim..."

Who of you masters wants a partner who cannot or will not make a choice to surrender? A partner who does not choose to share their self, and merely waits to see if they happen to have a reaction that inspires sharing?

I sometimes choose to do things I don't like, because he wants me to. I can control my reactions if they're inappropriate, usually. I can't just decide to submit to someone - I can bottom to him, or obey him, but there's no sense of being yielded to his will. Calling it submission would be an outright lie. I can choose to share certain things, but that's true no matter what D/s or BDSM dynamic we have.

My thoughts on this post is that the slaves i have been fortunate enough to know have been strong women outside of bdsm and wanted to give up power to their DOM. That doesnt make them worthless or dirt its just who they are. Any Dom who would treat any slave like dirt will soon have no slave.

Oh, just to clarify, I have some choice about how I react in *response* to my submission, although I feel very much driven to please him, and it is very wrenching emotionally and difficult to not do what he wants of me. I've turned down one person in the past who I reacted very strongly to submissively, since he wasn't offering a relationship/dynamic in which I would be happy. I can't choose to submit to someone, only to refrain from acting upon it.

imagine that is how you perceive everyone you come into contact with...submission IS your response to them...the "choice" you must make is not TO submit, but to refrain from it.
