if of wood, use steam for quick results.

if of wood you would could get heavy dowels and using string bind it to the dowel....takes a long time, but if you soak it in hot water it helps (not the dowel though use wax paper or plastic cling wrap on the heavy dowel (or good piece of bamboo)

bamboo is kinda bad shit for a cane.......splinters sharp.....but if you have an alcohol lamp or a small torch (and you gotta be really careful here) warm it, stress it, warm it, stress it.

maybe it not bamboo then i could be wrong . i purchased from our local fetish fair. will have to learn to identify my canes

that is for rattan, like wicker, bamboo is not the same structurally. Rattan is more 'rope' like.

I would guess it is rattan.  Most fetish-gear makers know not to use bamboo.  Using bamboo on someone's bum is likely to get you really bad juju.

Do-It-Youself Cane Straightening.

Step 1) Get a Stock Pot (Larger the better) And Boil the Largest Ammount of water you can.

Step 2) Take a Full Cup of Rubbing Alcohol (You will only need this once however the Process can take a few different times)

Step 3) Plug your Bathtub (Or a wash Basin Sink ONLY if the entire Cane can be submerged.)

Step 4) SOAK CANE in BOILING WATER (For First Time Pour in rubbing alcohol)

Step 5) Wait for water to cool down. Usually one Hour to one and a Half hours.

Step 6) While Cane is soaking get Twine, A Hook, and A Small weight (Usually 5lbs is all that is necessary however any weight can work as long as it isn't too heavy as it breaks the twine.

Step 7) Secure Hook into Ceiling or Door Jamb.

Step 8) Tie Twine SECURELY around one end of cane and attach to hook so cane is hanging Vertically.

Step 9) Tie Other end of Cane Equally As Securely with Twine.

Step 10) Hang the Weight from the Twine tied to the bottom of the cane.

Step 11) Let hang for 2 to 3 days if the cane is not as stright as you would like it repeat the Process leaving out the Alcohol as it will just dry out the cane.

This can be done multiple times however it will eventually leave the cane weaker than originally. If the Cane was Treated with an Epoxy then this process will not work you can tell if the cane has been treated as it will have a Shine or Sheen to it that shuld be worn near the tip or the handle.

In the end straightening a cane takes time and depending on how tight money is it is usually cheaper to just buy a new cane. However if the Cane has personal value to you then this process will work just fine.

This only works on ORGANIC material there are lots of canes out there that are CAST Material sold as real it is easy to be fooled. you only find out when the break. If you do this process on a NON-Organic Cane it will ruin the cane.

Enjoy.

*** Side note *** you can also Straighten out Pool Cues the same way only you don't soak it at all just hang it, if the warp is really heavy then you can spray it with a squirt bottle and take a blow dryer to it for 20 minutes.

Hi.

We soak our wood and bamboo canes in water to straighten them out. (Some times you can straighten out a sub that way too. But you can't leave them in too long or they'll get too straight if you know what I mean.)

TEMPERANCE -> RE: how to straighten a cane (9/27/2009 9:21:19 AM)

Canes need to be stored in a vertical position to prevent bowing.
