My suggestion is to not pursue this site primarily as a means of meeting someone, instead use it as a way of learning about different peoples preferences, thoughts, and inclinations. See what resonates with you. Maybe you'll encounter someone along the way that is worth meeting, maybe not, but you'll learn something along the way regardless.
Its the internet version of going to a pick-up bar vs. meeting someone at a chance encounter in a day to day function. In the Internet world if you take the pick-up bar approach, the most likely thing you'll attract is the scammers.
