I'm the first to concede I'm not nearly the most computer savvy person getting about so I'll ask here.... The last few months, I haven't been online or onsite nearly as much as I'd like so maybe it's just a timing coincidence.

Ever since I updated to the latest version of Internet Explorer (2-3 months ago?), the formatting style at CM is very different. Me, I rather like playing around with different fonts and colours etc when I post but ever since my IE update, posting at CM has become exponentially more difficult for me, especially if I wanna quote someone by breaking their post up into multiple portions and replying to each piece individually. I get a screen that's just a pig's breakfast of brackets and codes etc surrounding the text and I end up with square eyes and a headache from searching for the relevant passage amongst the mire.... And god help me if they reply in the same piece-meal way.

So, did CM change something about the same time as the latest IE version came out or are they directly related to each other? I will say the current CM style is much the same as it's always been at bondage.com, which makes me think it's a site change = coincidence. I don't post at bon.com anymore and one of the reasons was what I'm now encountering here with the posting format. No, I haven't done a CM search to see if others have encountered the same problem; also because I have very limited online time at present....

Perhaps there's a setting I can change (pleeeeeeeeeeease)?

Thanks,

Focus.

I downloaded Internet Explorer 8 many months ago and had problems going to certain sites and didn't know how to rectify the problem so I went back to IE 7...it had to do with add-ons and I don't really know if the they fixed that problem or I was just not too bright about fixing it myself....they keep wanting me to update again but I am leery. If anyone knows about this please let me know...thanks!  PS..I think I couldn't get to this site for some reason thinking back too!

I don't mess around with fonts etc, too much, and so have not noticed anything different that way, but what I have noticed lately is that over in the profiles section a lot of the profiles have exactly what you describe when the profile first comes up. If I then go to look at the full profile all the squares etc. have magically turned into normal types of font. I did recently change Internet servers but have not changed to a different Explorer or anything like that. My own assumption was that it possibly had something to do with download time or something. So, similar problem, but no answer here either.

Focus, I changed to IE8 not long ago, but I'm not seeing what you've described; hopefully someone sharper than us will come along!

I don't mess with the fonts and I have been using IE8 since May. Only problem I have to deal with is if I am at a shopping site, a separate window opens up on the left, tempting me to do serious harm to the monitor.

It is an issue with IE 8. I received this the other day from the creators of my shopping cart software

"Put simply Internet Explorer 8 has a bug which makes it think that your old  shop is trying to attack your customer's computer: just when they try to place an order. Internet Explorer 8 then promptly stops your customers.

Should you be more technically inclined, then you might be interested in knowing that Internet Explorer 8 incorrectly identifies the order placement as an attempted cross-site scripting attack. Whether you understand this techno-jargon or not doesn't really matter: the sad result is the same: every customer who uses Internet Explorer 8 will be unable to buy from you. And only Microsoft can fix the problem."

Of course they then go on to say that if I upgrade to their newest software (a cool $1000) then it wil be IE8 friendly.
I have a feeling that Microsnot will put out some patches in the near future to cover stuff like this, and other bugs.
On the other hand I found that I can now use Google chrome on this site, which i couldnt do before....
I hope it works out for you Focus

Lucy

Edited because now my formatting is screwed up, maybe its catching:)

Yep, that's the kinda crap I'm talking about.... If I wanna quote someone's longish post in piece-meal manner, the post will come up with dozens of lines of this bullshit wrapping the text. {font equals verdana}{color equals #xyz} etc and repeated at the end of the passage with forward slash added - and on and on.

And when I add my own creative genius to my reply - arrggghhhh!!!!!

Focus.

Lol, dunno about you but where computers and programs are concerned, Foghorn Leghorn might rightly describe me as a "Nice kid but about as sharp as a bowlllling ball" - my best southern accent there....

Do me a favour and hit the 'quote' icon above my post and see if the crap comes up surrounding this post.

Now, in the little "reply to message box, there is all the gobbledygook we're discussing, but it shouldn't come out in the final post.

Yep, I'm getting the drift that it was my IE8 update but surely Bill will be along to rescue the situation - for a grand less than your thousand bucks, yes? lol

No, it doesn't come out in the finished post; it's obviously an identity code for each selected option.

But like I said, you start messing with quoting longer posts in a multiple of portions, it's like a freakin' boring wallpapaer repeated ad nauseum.... It's really starting to build up now that I've quoted your quote.

Focus.
